Educational institutions

Vocational colleges at Raithelplatz

At Raithelplatz there is a “ Vocational College for Technology (BKT)” and another for health and social affairs, the “ Gertrud Bäumer Vocational College ”, a vocational school center of the Märkischer Kreis for around 5000 students.

Evangelical "Johann-Hinrich-Wichern Kindergarten"

The “ Johann-Hinrich-Wichern-Kindergarten ” at Unterm Freihof 26 is also part of the Protestant Johanneskirche at Lärchenweg 13 . It includes 2 groups that look after children between the ages of 2 and school entry.

Once a year, a summer party is celebrated with various events both inside and outside the kindergarten.

New day care center

It has been discussed for a number of years whether another daycare center should be built on Buckesfeld. In the next youth welfare committee, the SPD will give the administration an inspection order. The new building could be built on part of the football field of the Richard-Schirmann-Realschule (RSR). Possibly. the facility should also be built on several floors.

"Richard Schirrmann Realschule (RSR)"

To the south of the vocational colleges, across Buckesfelder Strasse, is the " Richard-Schirrmann-Realschule (RSR) ". The current building 2 of the secondary school used to house a former branch of the Stadtpark secondary school due to space problems, which was closed a few years ago.

At the beginning of November 2012 the school committee of the city of Lüdenscheid decided unanimously that the "Richard-Schirrmann-Realschule" may introduce a bound all-day operation from the 2013/2014 school year.

etymology

Outdated names are Buxsfeldt (1633); and Buckesfeldt (1705). Paul Derks concludes: “The approach of mnd is unlikely here. buk, bok 'Bock, Scharfbock, Aries', since the closing -s of the first member probably points to the name of a previous owner Buck in the genitive. "()

history

Kotten des Freihof Buckesfeld (2009), since then heavily reshaped by non-listed buildings

In 1896, the art historian Prof. Dr. Rudolf Adamy on the Buckesfelder head a Wallburg after which from the time of Saxon should come Conquest in the early Middle Ages. The neighboring Buckesfelder Freihof has belonged to the municipal Feldmark since Lüdenscheid became a town in the 13th century . The place name is said to have been derived from the name of an owner Buck . The so-called "Butenbürgerrecht" applied, which equated the residents with those within the fortifications. Even in the 16th century it is certified that Buckesfeld always belonged to the city. This did not change in the period that followed. Urban development structures, however, only emerged cautiously after 1900 on Buckesfelder Strasse . In particular, the building of the state teachers' college with preparande was built here until 1913 . In the 1920s, terraced houses followed and a closed multi-family house development on Am Gölling street . 1935–1937, the Buckesfeld barracks of the Reichswehr , the so-called flak barracks , were built north and west of the seminar building . As early as the 1950s, the previously predominant free areas of the district were built up on a large scale. On the street Unterm Freihof , extensive apartment building complexes arose early on, on the Buckesfelder Kopf and north of it residential houses. The barracks were used by the Belgian armed forces since the post-war period . After their withdrawal, apart from a few remains, the buildings were demolished at the end of the 1990s, including the associated flak tower, which was considered an attractive landmark due to its exposed location .

Infrastructure

General

On February 28, 2013, a report appeared in the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten that the supermarket chain based at Unterm Freihof 1 wants to expand its 1,200 m² shop with a beverage store. The renovation of the complex should make this possible. Customers from other parts of the city often come to the Buckesfeld location, which creates a competitive perspective for the supermarket. According to the owner, there are a total of 50 employees in the supermarket, including 15 permanent employees.

There are also several medical practices and bakeries in the district that ensure basic services.

There are also several catering establishments such as cafes, snack bars and various restaurants.

Buckesfeld's head

In 2007, all of the apartment buildings on the Wendehammer on Buckesfelder Kopf were demolished. At that time, some of the houses were in a desolate condition that was in dire need of renovation.

After the demolition, several single-family houses were gradually built on the open space.

Former flak barracks

The former Flakkaserne Buckesfeld at Buckesfelder Straße 101, which was foreclosed in 2011, is currently being converted into a medical center and may then also receive a pharmacy. In addition, the Volksbank has set up its self-service branch for Buckesfeld there. Lt. As of June 29, 2013, 70 percent of the commercial units at Buckesfelder Strasse 101 are already let. In addition, further renovations of houses on Buckesfeld are planned.

Former barracks area

Since the withdrawal of the Belgian armed forces, the former barracks on Buckesfeld has served as a residential and commercial area . In this central location of the district, in addition to many commercial businesses, retail chains such as a hardware store chain, a beverage chain, a supermarket chain and two discount chains have established themselves.

In 2012, one of the two discount chains also demolished its old building at Hohen Steinert 5 and replaced it with a more modern and larger building on the same site. According to an article from the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten, the new building was officially reopened as a shop on Monday, March 4th, 2013.

Next door at Hohen Steinert 3, a chain of car dealerships expanded and renovated their existing location.

Evangelical St. John's Church

Evangelical St. John's Church

At Lärchenweg 13 is the Protestant Johanneskirche with community center. The church was built at that time in order to be able to connect the formerly rapidly growing residential areas on Buckesfeld with its own Protestant church.

Headquarters of the Märkisches Kreis

The main administrative seat of the Märkischer Kreis is located on the edge of Buckesfeld at Heedfelder Straße 45 . This was accommodated there in the then newly built district building. The building is located between the residential street “An den Tannen” and the main thoroughfare “Heedfelder Straße”. Further administrative buildings of the Märkisches Kreis are located in the former district towns of Iserlohn and Altena .

youth club

The Buckesfeld district has had its own youth club on “Alte Wache 1” since September 2010, which was operated by the International Association (IB) until August 31, 2014 . Since September 1st, 2014 the youth club "Knast" has been operated by the AWO .

It is located in part of the former Belgian barracks. Until a few years ago, the former restaurant "Knast" was located in this building, which was closed due to economic difficulties. The name came from the fact that at the time of the barracks there was a prison in the premises and the flair should be preserved as true to the original as possible. The building has been part of the list of architectural monuments in Lüdenscheid as No. 138 since 1997 .

In November 2013 there were various concerns in the public and in politics as to whether the youth club could continue to operate from summer 2014. The reason is that the International Federation (IB) withdrew from Lüdenscheid and other cities in the Märkisches Kreis by summer 2014. In 2013, negotiations were held in Berlin about which agencies could take over from previous institutions of the International Federation. Several organizations and associations were interested in the facilities.

In connection with the youth club, the outside area of the building is also to be upgraded. For example, a barbecue area or various seating areas would be possible there. The adjacent staircase should also be extensively renovated. In addition, a Buckesfeld district conference is planned by those responsible, which could meet regularly on important topics of the district.

Allotment garden

There is an allotment garden with several parcels below the Johann Hinrich Wichern Kindergarten . Until three years ago, the members of this complex organized a popular picnic for the public every summer . This event no longer exists.

Lanterns

In the past few months, the old lanterns at Buckesfeld have been massively replaced by new, energy-saving and brighter LED lights. This is related to the new legal requirement, according to which energy-intensive lanterns are no longer allowed to stand on public streets and paths by the end of 2015.

Mozartstrasse

At Mozartstrasse 22-24 there is a former company site that is currently vacant and is now for sale. Possibly. Various new residential buildings are to be built on the 7306 m² site.

Sports and gymnasiums

In the sports hall next to the Richard-Schirrmann-Realschule and in the gymnasium Raithelplatz, events from various sports and clubs are regularly offered because of their size.

Worth seeing

  • The historical Kotten of the Buckesfelder Freihof in the style of a Brandenburg long-walled house (formerly covered with a thatched roof ) and neighboring trees, some of which are several hundred years old
  • Building of the former Prussian teacher training college from 1913, today part of the vocational school center in the design language of neo-baroque and art nouveau . The exposed building with its roof turret is visible in large parts of the city.
  • Evangelical St. John's Church, new building in modern style with a cubic church tower
  • Gate construction of the former Buckesfeld flak barracks
  • In the north-east of the district, below the Hohen Steinert, is the festival area of the Lüdenscheider Bürgererschützenverein . His rifle festival is advertised as the largest fair in the Sauerland. The shooting festival usually takes place in May to June of the year. During the year there are often flea markets on Schützenplatz, including the traditional Matjesfest.

Transport links

Rail transport

The closest train stations are Lüdenscheid and Bruges (Westphalia) .

Both can be easily reached by car or bus in a few minutes. The Bruges – Lüdenscheid railway itself runs right on the edge of the district.

In addition, due to the large number of residents in the surrounding districts, it was considered to set up a stop at the Lüdenscheider district building. However, due to the problematic topographical location, this would be associated with very high costs. That is why they concentrated on relocating the Lüdenscheid train station and did not pursue the project any further for the time being.

Bus transport

The district is connected to local public transport by bus routes 40, 41 and 245 (school bus route) operated by Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) .

Important bus stops in the district are: "Offenbachstraße", "Humperdinckstraße", "Buckesfeld", "Vocational School", "An der Steinert", "Buckesfelder Straße", "Kreishaus (I + II)", "Im Winkel", "Abzw . Im Winkel ”,“ Unterm Freihof ”,“ Buckesfelder Kopf ”,“ Oberösenbach ”,“ Mozartstraße ”and“ Lisztstraße ”.

Road traffic

The connection to the federal motorway network is via the nearby exit No. 13 Lüdenscheid-Nord of the federal motorway 45 . This leads north to Hagen and Dortmund and south to Siegen , Wetzlar , Gießen and Frankfurt am Main . Further junctions are the exits No. 14 Lüdenscheid and No. 15 Lüdenscheid-Süd of the A 45. The two federal highways B 54 and B 229 are also near Buckesfeld and can be easily reached within a few minutes by car. Many parking spaces within Buckesfeld ensure that motorists have enough parking space.
