The Gertrud Bäumer Vocational College in Lüdenscheid and Plettenberg is a vocational college with a focus on health, social issues, nutrition and care and personal care. The school is centrally located in the Buckesfeld district in Lüdenscheid in the Märkisches Kreis and, with around 1,100 students and 100 teachers, is the largest in the Märkisches Südkreis. The school is named after the women's rights activist and politician Gertrud Bäumer .

history

In 1956, the domestic and commercial part of the vocational schools in the Altena district and in the city of Lüdenscheid became independent and were named "Commercial Schools II". This facility soon opened up to male students, just as an increasing number of girls began training in traditionally male professions.

In the course of school development planning, on August 1, 1988, the school town of Plettenberg was reconnected to the Gertrud Bäumer School. The branch solution, which has been successfully operated since then, has contributed to ensuring that training courses in the professional fields of nutrition and housekeeping, personal care as well as social and health care can be maintained in the Lennetal . The school in Plettenberg is housed in a school building on the Bredde that was inaugurated in 1964. The further development of educational offers in the Lennetal was made possible not least by a resolution of the district council in 1997, which after long discussions confirmed the independence of the Plettenberg school location.

On April 23, 1991 a school partnership was signed with the Medical High School in Myślenice in Poland. In October 1991, a support association was founded to provide non-material and material assistance for the partner school. School trips and a variety of activities have intensified contacts since then.

In 2002 the college was named an environmental school in Europe . Further awards followed, such as the most recent award as a school without racism, school with courage .
