Location of Freisenberg in Lüdenscheid

Freisenberg is the name of a district and belongs to the statistical district 15 ( Gevelnorf / Freisenberg) of the district town of Lüdenscheid in the western Sauerland , North Rhine-Westphalia . Since 2010, the eastern district of Oberrahmede has also been included in the statistical district 15 (Gevelnorf / Freisenberg). The hamlets of Hülscheiderbaum and Hulsberg have also been statistically included in the Freisenberg district since 2010. The statistical district as a whole borders on Altena and Schalksmühle .

Infrastructure

General

The southeastern part of the district is mainly characterized by many detached single-family houses and row houses. Numerous apartment buildings were also built. Many of these houses have been extensively renovated in recent years. The nearest shopping facilities for the residential area are on the upper Brockhauser Weg, which is part of the neighboring Gevelnorf district .

In the eastern part of Freisenberg, on the street “Im Grund 6”, there is also the church building of the Protestant community of Oberrahmede.

The nearest primary school is at Brockhauser Weg 34, in the neighboring district of Gevelnorf .

Commercial and industrial area

In the remaining parts of the district there are for the most part numerous small, medium-sized and larger companies. The Freisenberg is therefore one of the largest commercial and industrial areas in the city of Lüdenscheid. Many of the older company buildings have been rebuilt, expanded or even partially completely rebuilt in recent years.

Within the last two decades, the commercial and industrial area has expanded further towards the city limits to Schalksmühle . Among other things, the new part of the area includes the streets Römerweg, Gielster Stück, Hoher Hagen and parts of the street Im Wiesental. Many parts of it are included in the Eggenscheid district of Lüdenscheid . Some companies have moved from Freisenberg in this direction, as the expansion possibilities in this area were greater than in the old area of Freisenberg.

Since these areas were no longer sufficient, a joint industrial area with the neighboring community of Schalksmühle was created in the northeast of Freisenberg . Today, this is largely counted as part of the Heedfeld district of Schalksmühl .

Timber Shop

At the end of July 2011, it became known that a timber shop based on the Lüdenscheid train station will probably move to another site on the “In der Dönne” street in the Freisenberg district by the end of 2011. The former site of the timber shop at the train station is now to be included in the planning of the “think tank” project. On September 15, 2012 it was announced that the timber merchant's move to the new 10,000 square meter site at the new location “In der Dönne” (in the north of Lüdenscheider) had begun. The work, including extensive earthfills, took a total of two years on the 10,000 square meter site at the new Freisenberg site.

Märkische workshops

Many years ago, the Märkische Werkstätten des Evangelisches Johanneswerk eV set up a large workshop for their workshops at Freisenbergstrasse 33 and created a location for INTEGRA at 22 Kerkhagen Street. Another plant of the workshops is located in the Wefelshohl district at Wefelshohler Strasse 48. The central administration of the workshops is at Kölner Strasse 152 in the Oeneking district .

Toolmaking Institute South Westphalia

The tool making institute Südwestfalen was also located on Im Wiesental 77 in Freisenberg. The institute, which is affiliated with the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences , presents itself to the daily changing audience with administration, training room and technical center in bright and modern rooms on an area of over 600 square meters. The shareholders of the tool making institute are a sponsoring association consisting of companies from the region (tws), the city of Lüdenscheid (EGC), the Märkische Kreis (GWS), the precision mechanics guild, the plastics institute Lüdenscheid and the institute for metal forming Lüdenscheid (IFU ) . The institute sees itself as a mediator between theory and practice. The company's goals are to achieve networked toolmaking. This should also enable large tool projects to be brought to the region in the future.

At the end of October 2014, the Tool Making Institute in South Westphalia (wi-swf) moved from Straße Im Wiesental 77 to Freisenbergstraße 19. On 11/12 November is the official inauguration of the new location. The institute’s 3rd conference will also take place on these days. The reason for the move was the acquisition of the new machine "laser milling machining center".

Worth seeing

The different houses in the southeast of the district and the extensive footpaths in the district invite you to take a walk.

The architecture of some company buildings also offers interesting aspects for the viewer, including the Indusys GmbH building at Kerkhagen 9.

Some green spaces shape the image of the district.

The district itself is still largely surrounded by forests and meadows.

For children there are some newly designed playgrounds in the southeast of the district.
