The Lüdenscheid-Bruges railway station is a station on the Volmetal path of Hagen after Dieringhausen and run by DB Station & Service in the lowest station Category  performed. 7 Because of the branching off of the Bruges – Lüdenscheid railway line , it is a separation station . The train station is on the edge of the Lüdenscheid district of Bruges . The station's bridge signal box is known nationwide .

history

The Volmetalbahn from Hagen to Dieringhausen was opened between 1871 and 1893. On September 6, 1874, the Bruges train station was opened as a temporary terminus. On July 15, 1880, the route to Lüdenscheid was continued. On October 15 of the same year, the journey continued to Oberbrügge, initially only for freight traffic. With the extension to Meinerzhagen on July 1, 1892, passenger traffic was also taken up. On July 1, 1910, the connection between Oberbruges and Wipperfürth to the Wuppertal Railway went into operation, which brought additional traffic to Bruges. In 1913 the line between Hagen and Bruges was expanded to two tracks.

Numerous apartments for the railway workers were built around the station area, as Bruges (Westphalia) was very important in rail traffic and many residents were employed in the railway station.

The station facilities were constantly being expanded, in 1927 a large reception building was built and the bridge signal box, which is still in place today, was built.

After 1945 the railway lines around Bruges lost importance, the Volmetal was reduced to single-track operation. In 1990 the Bruges railway station was closed as a service. Passenger traffic was relocated from the previous island platforms to a new platform on the north side, the platforms and underground access were given up.

In 2009, the former reception building, designed in neoclassicism , was demolished due to the risk of collapse, as the old building had not been renovated in recent years.

The facade and the roof of the old railway bridge signal box at Bruges train station, which dates from 1927, were renovated in 2012. This gave the defining building of the former railway junction a refresh.

Modifications are planned for the resumption of passenger traffic between Meinerzhagen and Bruges. On January 31, 2013, a report appeared in the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten that the new planned 120 m long central platform at Bruges (Westphalia) station was too short according to a regulation. According to the newspaper, the Deutsche Bahn AG and the city of Lüdenscheid are now resisting this. The new platform will be located between the Lüdenscheid – Cologne and Bruges – Hagen railway lines. Passengers could either change to the opposite train at the same platform or use a crossing that would lead to bus stops, taxi stands or parking spaces on the edge of the tracks. If the new platform is now 170 meters instead of 120 meters, the transition between the platform and the street can only be solved with a bridge like the one at Meinerzhagen train station . Otherwise, according to the newspaper, the passengers would come out to the rear of the newly planned fire station. The city of Lüdenscheid would like to avoid this, if possible, by using a shorter platform.

On March 20, 2013, another report appeared in the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten that the future platform in Bruges, which had been planned to be only 80 meters long, should now be longer. However, the platform should not be extended to the standard of 170 meters required by the State Ministry of Transport, but only to 120 meters. The city administration of Lüdenscheid received the approval for this from the Deutsche Bahn. The trains should stop parallel on the platform in order to be able to keep the transfer from the Cologne train in the direction of Hagen as short as possible. In contrast, the route should lead directly to Lüdenscheid. The place where buses and taxis are currently waiting should still be directly accessible. The city of Lüdenscheid hopes that its previous planning will also be approved in this way. According to this, passengers should be able to get directly from the platform to the approximately 5000 square meter square with waiting MVG buses, taxis or private collectors (Kiss & Ride). If, on the other hand, the platform were to be too long, it would have to end on the future site of the fire brigade.

Bridge signal box Bruges (monument)

The last form signals in Bruges went out of operation on December 16, 2016, the bridge signal box in the night of December 18 to 19, 2016. At the same time, the electronic signal box (ESTW) was put into operation in a new functional building in the north of the station. All rail traffic on the Volme, Agger and Listertalbahn is controlled from here. The building and technology of the old bridge signal box have been under monument protection since summer 2016.

On December 10, 2017, the station was renamed Lüdenscheid-Bruges. Lüdenscheid Bruges (Westf.) Has been on the signs on the platform since December 2016 .

Depot

Over the years, a single locomotive shed had become a four-person rectangular shed. In 1914 the depot (Bw) was expanded and a 13-room roundhouse with a water tower and ancillary buildings was built at the southeast end of the station.

Up to 24 locomotives were stationed here, especially the 57.10–35 , 93.5–12 and 94.5–17 series . In 1955 the depot became a branch of the Hagen freight depot. Some of the facilities were preserved until the 1980s. For the steep stretch to Lüdenscheid, three 96.0 were stationed here from 1929 to 1936 , but they were not conducive to the superstructure.

Platform and bus stop

Until 1986 there was a direct connection in passenger traffic to Cologne, after which passenger traffic between Bruges and Marienheide was discontinued.

In 2013 the connection between Marienheide and Meinerzhagen was reactivated, the section to Bruges (Westphalia) followed in December 2017 (see planning ). This means that since 2017 there has been a direct connection from Lüdenscheid via Bruges to Cologne.

planning

On Saturdays and Sundays, the Volmetalbahn is to run from Lüdenscheid to Hagen an hour earlier. In addition, the Märkische Kreis is aiming for a 30-minute cycle for the Volmetalbahn from Lüdenscheid via Hagen to Dortmund, as Lüdenscheid is the stop with the most demand.

The reactivation of passenger traffic between Bruges and Meinerzhagen took place in December 2017. The route is operated as an extension of the RB 25 by DB Regio.

Freight transport

Freight traffic in Bruges is limited to the freight trains from the local quarry coming from the Krummenerl route , which continue north on the Volmetal Railway through Bruges.

Station area

A new tool shed for the Lüdenscheid fire brigade was built on the former station premises by 2014 .

2011

On November 26, 2011, the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten announced that the Lüdenscheid city administration had sent contracts to the Hamburg investment company Procom for signature. The company Procom had already announced at the beginning of the year that it wanted to set up shops for food, beverages, mattresses and pet supplies in Bruges-East on 12,000 square meters between the platform and the Volme. According to this newspaper, in the closed part of the latest building committee meeting it became known that the administration was waiting to answer the question of whether the ten million euro project would be concluded.

2012

On May 11, 2012 it became known that the Hamburg investment and holding company Procom had withdrawn from the project before contracts were ready to be signed. The project was then put out to tender. A total of 11,800 square meters of building land plus 3,500 square meters for the public development of the areas. After the renewed invitation to tender, there are now new interested parties for the acquisition and development of the former railway site opposite the Aral Klapperich petrol station. The planning now includes a supermarket as a full-range supplier on 2000 square meters including a 400 square meter beverage market, two specialist stores for zoo and beds, as an alternative to a specialist store, a financial institute or a car company. In addition, the applicant must build the bridge over the Volme and adjust the intersection to the B 229 / B 54.

On August 29, 2012, the City Planning and Environment Committee of the City of Lüdenscheid publicly discussed the draft resolution for the development of the West Bruges development plan. In the area around the former and demolished station building, there will be areas for connecting buses and trains, such as at the Lüdenscheid train station, in addition to the Bruges fire station. These are to be supplemented by areas for park and ride , bike and ride and kiss and ride . The areas for this would now have to be significantly larger than originally planned. This results from the fact that the Bruges (Westphalia) station will be connected to the rail to Meinerzhagen from 2014 to 2015. This would clear the way for the rail reactivation of the line from Bruges via Marienheide to Cologne. This means that significantly more passengers would be expected and that would mean the increased use of space at Bruges train station. In addition, according to the Bruges-West development plan, a footpath and cycle path are to be built on the site, and there are also plantings along the Volme and a speed limit of 70 km / h on this section of Volmestrasse (B 229 / B 54).

The dilapidated bridge in Bruges-Ost is also to be replaced, according to a report by Lüdenscheider Nachrichten of November 20, 2012. In the course of the development of the Bruges-Ost building area, the building (which, according to the city administration, is already "missing" and can no longer be entered) will be demolished and make way for a new bridge. The timing is uncertain, however, because the city is still looking for a buyer for the site. According to the press office of the city of Lüdenscheid, the tenders for the site would run. A supermarket (full range) with an adjoining beverage market and two specialist markets are to be built on the site.

2013

According to a report from October 25, 2013, the banks of the Volme between the railway overpass north of the Ahelle and the river bridge at the southern exit of Lüdenscheid-Bruges are to be extensively renatured. The almost one and a half kilometer long section of the Volme is surrounded by rows of trees, most of which are to be felled. A steep bank wall has so far been enthroned for the most part towards the parallel federal highway 54. The river bed is therefore to be widened by four meters. With the trees disappearing, the view of the newly planned Bruges-Ost industrial park on the old site of the Bruges railway station would be more open than before. According to the city of Lüdenscheid, after a long period of uncertainty, this area has now been bought by a consortium of investors. The new owners want to start building various specialist stores there in 2014. There are various critics on the part of the population who fear clear-cutting on the Volme for the extensive tree felling on the Volme . The city of Lüdenscheid justifies the renaturation with the fact that both nature conservation should be improved and the situation should be relaxed in the event of floods through the wider river bed. In the past there were often various floods in several places in the Volmetal.

2014

According to a report by Lüdenscheider Nachrichten on February 28, 2014, the Bruges East railway area was sold to a Dutch investor active throughout Europe at the beginning of 2014. The Dutch investor would like to set up a full-range retailer and two smaller specialist markets on the site and establish transport links to the federal highways 54 and 229, which intersect in this area. Following the renewed Europe-wide tender for the site on the B 229 / B 54, the relevant contracts have now been signed. A pet shop and a bed shop are planned as specialist markets. The acquisition of the area is also associated with the construction of the bridge that will open up the site from the Talstrasse and Volmestrasse intersection.

A total of 13,000 square meters will be involved, of which the large consumer market alone will need 8,500 square meters including various parking spaces. According to the plans, the development, including internal development and bridge construction, could be completed around mid-2016. The shops currently located on the site now have to leave the area and look for new space. One of the two stores will move to Schalksmühle .

Planning

Today there is a furniture store and a wood shop on the former site of the freight yard. In addition, a new supermarket or full-range supplier (consumer market), a market for animal feed, a beverage market and a bed and mattress dealer are to be built. For this, the area of the station would have to be freed from contaminated sites and the two existing retailers would have to move to another site. The development of the new area is to take place via a bridge over the Volme, which would turn the existing T-intersection of federal highway 54 and federal highway 229 into a fully-fledged four-way intersection. In the future, this bridge will also be used for a bypassing Bruges via the Wahrdeabstieg .
