The former Schalksmühle train station has now been dismantled as a stop . It is located on the Volmetalbahn from Hagen to Dieringhausen and is managed by DB Station & Service in the lowest station category 7.

The station is on the edge of the city center of Schalksmühle . The only platform extends to the station forecourt and can be reached at ground level. The original plan was to restore the double-track condition, as the Volmetalbahn should also run every 30 minutes. However, the double-track expansion is still possible if necessary.

history

With the construction of the Hagen – Dieringhausen railway line, Schalksmühle received a railway connection in 1874. The station of the district Altenaer Eisenbahn (KAE), opposite the state station Schalksmühle, was the starting point of the Hälvertalbahn to Halver from 1988 . In this way the connection to the Volmetalbahn could be ensured. The Schalksmühle station gained importance in both freight and passenger traffic. This and the two railway lines contributed significantly to the economic success of the Hälvertal (between Halver and Schalksmühle) and the Volmetal (between Hagen and Meinerzhagen). Many Schalksmühle companies are still located on the course of the Hälverbahn and Volmetalbahn. In 1952 the Hälvertalbahn was shut down. The Schnurrenweg , which begins next to the train station, marks the course of the former railway line today. At the end of the 1990s the second track of the Volmetalbahn was removed, in this context all side tracks in Schalksmühle were removed and the station was downgraded to a stop.

Station area

The Kaufpark supermarket and a kiosk with a post office are now located on the site of the former train station . These can be reached via a passage to the platform . The same applies to the town hall square and the city center of Schalksmühle: Here the short path leads over the street "Am Bahnhof" and a set of stairs.

The Schalksmühle train station was to play a central role in the 2013 Regionale . It was planned to better link the residential area above the train station with the town center. For this purpose, a bridge was proposed which, from 2013, should lead from the residential area, across the platform, to the Rathausplatz and the parking garage below. The Schnurrenplatz, right next to the platform, should also be built on. The bridge was to be connected by three staircases or elevators. It was also considered to build a bike station for 150 bikes from 2016 . These measures were intended to abolish the inner-city separation.

According to the concept "Regional Integrated Development and Action Concept Above on the Volme", the area around the station in Schalksmühle is to be activated and upgraded as a whole. Similar to Meinerzhagen , the station in Schalksmühle forms a topographical barrier between the upper town and the center of the community along Bahnhofstrasse.

Offices and service providers would be built in newly constructed two- to three-storey buildings on the valuable, now underused parking space south of the train station. The P + R spaces would be relocated to Worthstrasse. The underpass can be reached from the northwestern Bahnhofstrasse via stairs. A new two-storey structure then rounds off the western driveway.

planning

In the future, the Märkische Kreis wanted the Volmetalbahn to run every 30 minutes to Dortmund, as Lüdenscheid is the stop with the most demand.
