Railway station around 1925

The werdohl station is the passenger station of the city Werdohl . It is located on the Ruhr-Sieg route that leads from Hagen to Siegen and was opened in 1861 when the route was commissioned. From 1887 to 1955 Werdohl was also the end point of the small railway to Lüdenscheid operated by the Altenaer Eisenbahn district .

Since the end of December 2012, Werdohl train station has also been one of the starting points of the Sauerland-Höhenflug hiking trail . Werdohl received the NRW Wanderbahnhof 2016 award .

Station building

The new baroque entrance building with two floors was built in 1914. Today it is part of the monument route Märkische Strasse technical cultural monuments . The cityscape-defining entrance building was acquired by the city of Werdohl in 2008. From July 2011 to 2013 the station building of the city of Werdohl was extensively renovated. The construction volume was around 2.9 million euros.

The city ​​archive finds a new home in the basement of the station extension. There is a tourist information office on the ground floor . The rooms on the upper floor of the main building are to be reserved for the city ​​museum and the small cultural forum. On March 21, 2013 Werdohler Wohnungsgesellschaft (Woge) was the first tenant to move into the renovated station building. This means that the wave has significantly more space than at its old location on Dammstrasse.

The Grote bakery followed the wave on April 18, 2013 into the redesigned station building. The complete opening of the renovated Werdohl train station building took place on Saturday, June 15, 2013, together with the North Rhine-Westphalian Building and Transport Minister Michael Groschek ( SPD ).

Station area

There are several shops, companies and a supermarket on the station area , which are grouped north and south of the railway tracks. A bridge connects the central platform with the two areas north and south of the tracks. The bridge has elevators and stairs at both ends and on the central platform that make the station barrier-free .

In January 2011 the former signal box of the Werdohl train station was demolished. It used to be the most modern signal box at the time it was built. The signal box has been empty since the switching of points and signals was controlled from Hagen Hauptbahnhof . According to DB Mobility Logistics, there are still no concrete plans for the further use of the site .

A new bus platform is to be built in 2012 at the central bus station (ZOB) at the train station for 53,000 euros . Individual traffic should then only be able to use Karlstrasse in one lane from the train station in the direction of Inselstrasse. The enlargement of the central bus station became necessary because the Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) was sending more buses to the central bus station at the same time after the timetable change on August 27, 2010.

In September 2014, an Edeka supermarket and other smaller shops opened in a new building on Inselstrasse .
