A bus platform , also called bus edge , holding edge or in Austria bus bar , is a structural device similar to a platform , but which is not used for getting on and off rail vehicles , but rather in buses or trolleybuses . In larger bus stations there are often numerous numbered bus platforms. There are bus platforms that also function as train platforms; they form a type of combined platform .

Technically sophisticated bus platforms can be found in the BRT system in Curitiba (Brazil) : the bus stop tubes that exist there are consistently equipped with bus platforms, which allow boarding and alighting at ground level without steps and are always staffed. Time-consuming ticket sales and ticket inspections can already be carried out at the entrance to the tube and the vehicle manages with very short stopping times for changing passengers.
