Swell:

The Meinerzhagen – Krummenerl line is a single-track branch line through the Lister valley in North Rhine-Westphalia . Since 1955, the route has only been used for freight traffic and for occasional special trips.

The planning at the time envisaged building the railway line via Olpe to Kreuztal . However, this project was no longer implemented.

history

The railway line from Meinerzhagen to Listertal was built between 1912 and 1927 (with an interruption during the First World War ) and opened on June 21, 1927. Originally, the railway line should continue to be built via Olpe to Kreuztal . The land acquisition for the construction of the missing seven kilometers had already been completed. However, this transport project was abandoned due to two world wars and a lack of money and remained unfinished. That is why this route is popularly known as The Unfinished .

According to the plans at the time, Hunswinkel would have had a train station and Dumicke a stopping point in order to meet the existing Finnentrop – Freudenberg railway line at Eichhagen .

Passenger traffic was only operated until May 28, 1955. The Meinerzhagen, Scherl, Valbert and Krummenerl stations existed . The station buildings in Valbert and Krummenerl are still standing today, but they are now used as residential buildings.

The last course book number was 240a. Previous course book numbers were 204f, 204c, 218b, 240g, 240 and 240d.

Today the tracks end in a quarry near Krummenerl. The embankment was built a little further in the direction of Hunswinkel , but has no tracks. Today, the railway line between Krummenerl and Hunswinkel can still be seen for a while due to the cuts in the terrain.

Freight trains with gravel from the Krummenerl quarry are currently still running . In 2005 new tracks were laid between Meinerzhagen and Krummenerl.
