Hunswinkel is a district of the Sauerland Meinerzhagen in the Märkischen Kreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany ).

Geographical location

Hunswinkel is located within the Ebbegebirge nature park, directly at the confluence of the Lister and the Listertalsperre , which borders the Biggesee to the west, and thus belongs to the “Listertal”.

Cultural and tourism

Hunswinkel is the center of the “Listertal” with tourism (water sports), DLRG and DRK rescue station (only manned during the season), multi-purpose event hall (Listerhalle), sports clubs and an old school. The area around Hunswinkel is a local recreation area with large camping and holiday home areas right on the lake. The Catholic Church of St. Peter am See and the Protestant Church were taken out of use and sold in the 2000s.

traffic

From Hunswinkel and the neighboring town of Krummenerl , country roads lead in the following directions:

VGWS bus routes lead to Windebruch-Attendorn, to Herpel-Schreibershof-Wegeringhausen-Drolshagen-Olpe, to Valbert, to Hespecke-Meinerzhagen.

A planned railway line from Meinerzhagen to Kreuztal should have led via Hunswinkel. The construction work was in progress, but due to two world wars and lack of money, the construction was not completed. The tracks only lead to Krummenerl train station, two kilometers away . Passenger traffic was operated there until 1955, today only freight trains run to the Krummenerl quarry. The embankment from Krummenerl to Hunswinkel was rudimentary, but it has no tracks. Today the embankment between Krummenerl and Hunswinkel can still be seen for a while due to the cut in the terrain. According to the plans at the time, Hunswinkel would have had a train station and Dumicke a stopping point; at Eichhagen the line would have merged with the existing Finnentrop-Olpe line .
