Wefelshohl is the name of a district and belongs to the statistical district 08 ( Kalve / Wefelshohl) of the district town of Lüdenscheid in the western Sauerland , North Rhine-Westphalia . The district and the statistical district are located in the southeast of downtown Lüdenscheid . Since 2010, the district is located west Leif Ringshausen with the statistical district 08 (Kalve / Wefelshohl) counted.

history

The place name "im Wiffelhohl" was first mentioned in 1633. It means something like Käferwiese ( Middle Low German = Wevel-Ohl ). It was a corridor in the Leifringhausen peasantry . Until the middle of the 20th century the building of a “Witte Buxe” courtyard was located in Bräucken. With the establishment of the Lüdenscheid garrison in Wefelshohl from 1935 onwards, an extensive supply depot for the Reichswehr , known as the "supply warehouse", was established. After Lüdenscheid surrendered on April 13, 1945, it was looted by the population and was then mostly empty.

Most of the buildings were destroyed in a major fire in the 1970s. The Theodor-Heuss-Realschule (THR) was then rebuilt on the site . In 1883, the city slaughterhouse opened in Bräucken . Immediately next door was the municipal dairy , known until the 1970s for the yoghurt specialties known as MoLüDess (Lüdenscheid dessert dairy). The slaughterhouse was closed in the late 1980s and the dairy closed in the early 1990s. The buildings, some of which are historically interesting, fell completely victim to the demolition.

Lt. According to a plan from April 1, 1913, a "Bräucken station" for the railroad was to be built at today's main traffic junction in Bräucken. To this day, this area of Lüdenscheid has never been opened up by the railroad. At that time, the area around today's Bräuckenkreuz was almost completely undeveloped. On the map from this time you can still clearly see the former rural character of the area.

Infrastructure

The building of the former secondary school in Wefelshohl is located in the north of the Wefelshohl district and the Theodor-Heuss-Realschule next to it . The location is predominantly characterized by numerous industrial and commercial settlements. In recent years, more new buildings and companies have been established in the area. A few decades ago, terraced and single-family houses were built on the edge of the industrial development. At that time, these houses were mainly used by the workers in the surrounding factories as well as the city slaughterhouse and the city dairy as nearby accommodation.

Many years ago the Märkische Werkstätten des Evangelisches Johanneswerk eV set up a location for their workshops at Wefelshohler Strasse 48. Another factory of the workshops is located in the Freisenberg district at Freisenbergstrasse 33. There is also an INTEGRA location on Freisenberg at Kerkhagen 22 street. The central administration of the workshops is located at Kölner Strasse 152 in the Oeneking district .

The B 229 , which runs through the adjacent valleys, and the main connection from the city center to the motorway junction 15 Lüdenscheid-Süd of the federal motorway 45 intersect at the Bräucken traffic junction , an important high-altitude saddle . The area around the busy intersection forms a sub-center in terms of the retail structure .

There is a district group Wefelshohl / Kalve / Höh , which meets regularly to discuss problems and events in the three districts.

Planning of an additional "local supply center in Bräucken"

2010

In addition to the existing shops at the main traffic intersection in "Bräucken", a new "local supply center Bräucken" was planned on Bromberger Straße. Lt. The newspaper "Westfälische Rundschau" was to build a new retail location with a large-scale full supplier , grocery discounter , drugstore and beverage store and a bakery on the fallow land between Bromberger Strasse and Bräuckenstrasse, opposite the confluence with Nottebohmstrasse . 3300 square meters of sales area were targeted there.

2013

On March 9, 2013, a report appeared in the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten that the development plan for the new "local supply center Bräucken" had been approved by the city of Lüdenscheid. As a result, the areas of the former discounter located on the site were completely demolished. The site between Bromberger Strasse and Bräuckenstrasse is now owned by a neighboring Lüdenscheid real estate company. As planned in 2010, a large-scale full -service provider , a grocery discounter and a drugstore have been built on the site. The neighboring Lüdenscheid real estate company wants to complete the new buildings on the site by the end of 2013 and open the shops for the opening.

According to a report from the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten, the first store of the new "Fachmarktzentrum Schlittenbach" (former planning name: "Nahversorgungszentrum Bräucken") opened on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 8 o'clock. The other companies also opened until Christmas 2013.

After the opening of the first shop, a lottery ticket shop with a post office opened, followed a short time later by a bakery with a café and the Volksbank with a self-service branch. On Thursday, November 28, 2013, a drugstore also opened on the premises. 11 new jobs were created in the drugstore.

On Tuesday, December 3, 2013, another grocery store opened with a beverage shop employing a total of 31 people.

Worth seeing

In the middle of the Wefelshohl district there is a wooded property that surrounds the two surrounding school buildings. Above that there is a park-like facility that connects the Wefelshohl district with the sports clinic in the Hellersen district. In addition to walks, the park has been offering mini golf for 40 years . The facility is also often used by the "MC 62 Lüdenscheid" miniature golf club. At the moment there are various discussions about whether the location should be closed completely or moved to another location on the site. The reason for the step is that the sports clinic wants to enlarge its building considerably. The building applications have already been submitted for the renovation work.

The indoor swimming pool at the sports clinic, which was still located a few years ago, was closed for financial reasons. The closest swimming opportunity is in the nearby family pool of Lüdenscheid in the Nattenberg district.

The elevation in the opposite district of Höh can also be described as very scenic. On the summit of the Höh, the extensive forest areas begin the outdoor area of the south of Lüdenscheid, accessible by numerous hiking trails . Through the so-called Räther Siepen is Neuenhof Castle reached in almost thirty minutes.
