Othlinghausen is the name of a district and belongs to the statistical district 13 ( Buckesfeld / Othlinghausen) of the district town of Lüdenscheid in the western Sauerland , North Rhine-Westphalia . The district and the statistical district are located in the northwest of the urban area. The farming hamlets Eicken and Felde are also part of the Othlinghausen district.

history

In the Middle Ages Othlinghausen belonged to the Winkhauser peasantry in the parish of Lüdenscheid . For a long time it was purely ecclesiastical property and, along with other goods, served to maintain today's Church of the Redeemer and the parish priest. The place name is derived from Odilinghusun , which means something like settlement of the people of an Odil / Odilo or an Odila / Odilia. Since 1843 Othlinghausen belonged to the municipality Lüdenscheid-Land , Amt Lüdenscheid . Since the 1950s, a larger settlement was built in the south-east of the Othlinghausen district until the 1960s. Because of the street names chosen, it is still known today as the musicians' quarter . To a central square was u. a. conceived a sub-center with the Evangelical Church in Lösenbach and the elementary school in Lösenbach . On January 1, 1969, most of Lüdenscheid-Land was incorporated into the city of Lüdenscheid. Since the late 1980s, a larger new building area has also been built east of the old village of Othlinghausen. As a result, it has finally grown together with the inner area of the city. However, it still forms the border to the partly heavily forested outdoor area .

Infrastructure

General

In the southern part of the Ohlinghausen district are the Lösenbacher church and the Lösenbach elementary school . The neighboring square at the end of Schubertstrasse forms a small sub-center with several retail and catering facilities . The musicians' quarter and the new development area of Othlinghausen have an unrestricted urban character. Large parts of the rest of Othlinghausen, on the other hand, are more rural. Until a few years ago there were still many farms here. Some of these even ran a farm sale with fresh animal products .

DRK day care center "Lösenbach"

On April 20, 2015, the City Council of Lüdenscheid will decide whether the existing DRK day care center "Lösenbach" can be expanded to include an extension that will accommodate two additional groups. So far, the day care center has only had two regular groups with 25 children each. This is intended to compensate for the lack of day-care centers in the Lösenbach / Buckesfeld area. In total, it is about an investment of almost one million euros for the extension of the ground floor and a partial basement of the building. Of this, 900,000 euros are estimated as pure construction costs and 95,000 euros as installation costs. Of this, the prospect of federal funding is 288,000 euros. These federal funds come from the “Childcare Financing Investment Program 2015-2018”. Like the main building, the extension is to have a flat roof. In addition, the building is to be provided with a curtain-type, heat-insulating facade. This will create a total of 397 square meters of additional space for the day-care center.

Lanterns

In Othlinghausen, the old lanterns have been massively replaced by new, energy-saving and brighter LED lights in recent months. This is related to the new legal requirement, according to which energy-intensive lanterns are no longer allowed to stand on public streets and paths by the end of 2015.

Losenbacher Church

Lösenbacher Church (2009)

In 2014 the district of Lösenbach celebrated its 50th anniversary. The community of Lösenbach was founded in 1964 because of the extensive, new residential development in the Oberlösensbach area. First, the services were celebrated in the break hall of the then newly built elementary school Lösenbach. From January 1967 to 1988 a provisional prefabricated house at Schubertstrasse 3 was the community center. In 1974 the parish hall received an additional youth wing. After the prefabricated house was demolished and the building was rebuilt, the new community center at Schubertstraße 3 was opened on Thanksgiving Day (October 1) 1995. The church service room and an additional group room are located on the upper floor of the parish hall. The youth rooms are in the basement. Today the parish belongs to the Protestant parish of Bruges-Lösenbach.

New development areas for residential houses

In the last five years there have been intensive considerations as to whether another new residential area should be built in Othlinghausen. Old mining areas in the Stoberg and Haydnstraße area, which have been filled with construction and ground rubble and have long been renatured, could be used as new building land in this context. At the same time, the Westdeutsche Grauwacke Union wanted to expand the Lösenbach quarry to the west in the direction of Bruges . Since 2008 it has been relatively quiet about the expansion of the quarry and the new building project.

Furthermore, the city of Lüdenscheid is intensively examining whether a further six residential buildings should be built between Othlinghausen and the local forest edge. On the part of the population there have already been various protests against the project because they fear massive destruction of the old village structure and nature in this area. The city of Lüdenscheid justifies the development by stating that the demand for residential space is very high and that this must be borne in Lüdenscheid.

Worth seeing

The nearby Oedenthal Castle is easily accessible on attractive hiking trails from the village and the new development area of Othlinghausen . Despite the numerous new buildings, the original character of the village of Othlinghausen is still understandable; the traditional village and excursion restaurant is still managed. Insights into the nearby quarry cut deep into the terrain are interesting . With the remodeling of the last few years, the Lösenbach church has lost its original character, reminiscent of the Heimatschutz style , and a roof turret.
