Clemenstorget is a square in the southern Swedish city of Lund . It is located in the medieval city center, east to northeast of the Lund C train station , in the Centrala staden district .

history

The square was laid out in the course of the construction of the Södra stambanan around 1860 and consisted of a planted roundabout and park benches. The surrounding buildings were erected around the turn of the century. The north side is dominated by a large building in Art Nouveau style , which was designed by Oscar Hägg. On the west side, towards the rear of the station, is the old customs chamber from 1894. With the construction of Mårtenstorget and the opening of the market hall in 1909, horses and other farm animals were traded on the square.

The current design goes back to an architectural competition in 1940, which resulted in extensive planting. Today the square consists mainly of plane trees as well as linden and horse chestnuts . The south-eastern part towards the train station consists of a paved square. In the middle of Clemenstorget there is a pond with a fountain .

In the 1990s, the western part was converted to bicycle parking spaces according to plans by Sven-Ingvar Andersson and also provided with plane trees. Behind the pond is a sculpture by the Lunder artist Staffan Nihlén.
