Grünewald

Location of Grünewald in Lüdenscheid

Grünewald is the name of a district of Lüdenscheid and belongs to the statistical district 03 (Grünewald) of the district town of Lüdenscheid in the western Sauerland , North Rhine-Westphalia . In particular, Mathildenstrasse, Wehberger Strasse, Wermecker Grund and Strasse Am Grünewald and the surrounding streets are counted as part of the Grünewald. This area is surrounded by Rahmedestrasse, Altenaer Strasse, Bahnhofstrasse and Heedfelder Strasse. In the southeast of Grünewald lies the Knapp district and in the southwest the Oeneking district , while the Wehberg district adjoins it in the north . To the west of the Grünewald is the Buckesfeld district . In addition, the Evangelical Christ Church is located south of the Grünewald district.

Lighting concept

There is to be a competition for lighting in the “think tank” quarter (around the station area). The seven locations are: the Christ Church , the facade of the Development and Start-up Center EGC (directly at the train station), the listed power house on the footpath from the police station at the train station to Martin-Niemöller-Straße, the large pendulum tower on the extension of the Phenomenta at the train station, the historic facades along Bahnhofstrasse, the “ Knapper Schule ” quarter square , and the subtle lighting of the path across the cemetery:

  • The illumination of the Christ Church is intended to create an identity and make the 66 meter high building appear as a landmark that can be seen from afar.
  • Thanks to its eye-catching facade, the EGC at the train station is a distinctive building that always looks different from different angles. This should also be the case in the evening.
  • On the way from the Rathausplatz to the Bahnhofsquartier is the listed power house built in 1920, which is also to be illuminated.
  • The town hall also wanted to know from lighting planners how the future Phenomenta pendulum should be staged at the train station.
  • The small facades on Bahnhofstrasse are also to be re-lit.
  • For the "Quartiersplatz Knapper Schule", the lighting is about the historic building, as well as the square area with various uses and path connections.
  • In addition, the path through the Protestant cemetery should be illuminated. It should also be safe to walk on during the “dark season”, also as a direct connection from the station district to the Wehberg residential area .

Educational and research institutions

Think tank

The Think Tank of the Regionale 2013 project is an EU-funded program to develop the train station district into an educational and research district.

Since the beginning of April 2013, a new display board at the Lüdenscheid train station has been providing information about the renovation work on the area there. There, interested parties should be able to get an overview of the area of the think tank. Photos and graphics should show what the future area should look like. The individual content-related modules are also explained there. These include the building of the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences , which has been newly opened since March 2012 , as well as the urban redevelopment work towards the city center, which will soon begin, and the new 75-meter-high tower of the Lüdenscheid Phenomenta , which is to receive a Foucault pendulum inside . The bridge over the tracks should also change the image of the current area significantly. The former train station and fallow area should therefore grow into an important educational and technology center for all of South Westphalia .

In addition, at the end of September 2013, the planning and construction committee of the city of Lüdenscheid was presented with an initial concept of steles for the think tank district. On the striking steles, visitors should soon be able to read as easily as possible how they are getting to the next attraction in the think tank. This is primarily intended to make it easier for “strangers” to find their way around the think tank district. A local advertising agency was awarded the contract to design the vacancies. According to the planning advertising agency, the foils on the steles can be exchanged for new foils relatively easily when updates are made.

German Institute for Applied Lighting Technology (DIAL)

The new building of the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences was inaugurated on March 14, 2012. The space for extensions is available in the immediate vicinity due to the dismantling of station buildings and track systems.

The German Institute for Applied Lighting Technology (DIAL) has also built a new building on the station premises. The building now stands next to the building of the tax office. In addition, the city has promised the DIAL an optional area of 3000 m² if it wants to expand again. The foundation stone for the new building at the station was laid on July 13, 2011. On January 7, 2013, the 70 employees of DIAL GmbH officially moved into the new building at Bahnhofsallee 18. According to the company, the cost of the new building was 4.5 Million euros net for 3000 square meters of space below that of a conventional building. Another 3,000 square meters can optionally be used for an extension over a period of ten years, but initially they should only be a parking space for the new building. A false floor in the building leaves space for new technologies, with hardly any new lines having to be drawn, almost everything in the new building runs electronically. The building can also do without radiators, since the warmth of people and PCs should soon be sufficient for complete heating.

Development and Start-up Center Lüdenscheid (EGC)

The Lüdenscheid Development and Start-up Center (EGC) is located at Karolinenstrasse 8. The main tasks of this nationally significant technology center include, according to the company's website, “the promotion of start-ups and young companies, both production and service-oriented, the promotion of research and development through industry-oriented, practical institutes for medium-sized businesses, professional qualifications and further education in cooperation with various providers, services for companies and conferences and seminars in their own meeting rooms. " the technology center is to “give young companies and start-ups the opportunity to develop and develop in a good environment. In addition to adequate premises, advice from the institutes in technical matters and specialist advice, for example, dealing with business problems relating to business start-ups, company management or financing, should be offered in the institute. In addition, there are purpose-oriented communal facilities, such as central information, an office service with its own telephone switchboard, several meeting and seminar rooms in the conference center, to which a casino is attached. ”Since the EGC started its activities, a total of 100 start-ups and young companies have been in added to the technology center.

South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences

In addition, a new location for the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences was built by February 2012 for up to 600 students at the nearby Lüdenscheid train station . Since the summer semester 2012, courses in the fields of mechanical engineering , medical technology , plastics technology and industrial engineering - building system technology have been offered there.

Institute for Forming Technology Lüdenscheid

The Lüdenscheid Institute for Metal Forming Technology (IFU) is also located at Lutherstrasse 13 . The IFU is a privately organized institute for scientific and technical advice, especially for the small iron industry, and is also an affiliated institute of the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences. The sponsoring company currently (June 2007) consists of 46 companies and associations, including the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences.

Lüdenscheid plastics institute

General

Another institute is the Lüdenscheid Plastics Institute on the outskirts of Grünewald at Karolinenstrasse 8 . The Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid (full name Kunststoff-Institut für die Mittelstandische Wirtschaft NRW GmbH (KIMW)) is a private consulting and research institute for plastics technology that was founded in 1988 by 30 companies from plastics-related industries in cooperation with the city of Lüdenscheid and the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences (then Iserlohn University of Applied Sciences) was founded. Today the institute is still connected as an affiliated institute with the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences.

2013

On January 16, 2013, the Lüdenscheid Plastics Institute invited the US Consul General and the NRW State Secretary for a visit. During a tour and discussions, plans were presented that a new “Polymer Training Center” should be built. It should function like a boarding school and be able to offer regional and national training courses. The new “Polymer Training Center” will have around 100 to 150 places. The former Piepenstock area below the institute, which was bought years ago and is currently used as a parking lot, is available as a building site.

On April 12, 2013, another report appeared in the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten that the new “Polymer Training Center” should be built by 2015 at the latest. The still existing paint shop on Lutherstrasse is to be completely demolished for this purpose. The new "Polymer Training Center" is very much welcomed by the planning politicians, as it is also intended to be a new component of the think tank in Lüdenscheid. The new "Polymer Training Center" is supposed to become a boarding school-like training center for young technical talent. For the design of the area around the already existing Lüdenscheid Plastics Institute (KIMW), there will also be an ideas competition. It should give a lot of impulses for the appearance of the boarding school, but also for the whole area between Karolinenstrasse, Lutherstrasse and Bahnhofsstrasse. The participating offices should therefore be selected by mid-May 2013. It is also expected that the institute will be followed by other companies to the location, which is almost entirely planned - including the parking lot on Bahnhofstrasse and Karolinenstrasse, as well as many areas behind. With the boarding school, the KIMW wants to attract young talent for its member companies. Machine setters or designers, also from small and medium-sized companies, could complete longer courses here. Dropouts from vocational training or FH courses also received new opportunities through comparable qualifications. The industry is using it to train young plastics technicians itself.

2015

In mid-January 2015, the Lüdenscheid plastics institute received a funding notification for 2.8 million euros from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The decision enables the “Polymer Training Center” (PTC) to be built next to the Lüdenscheid Plastics Institute. According to a newspaper article, the PTC should break new ground in imparting knowledge, providing initial training and further education. It is also aimed at dropouts and long-serving company employees who - without a degree - have to reorient themselves.

The new five-story building is expected to cost around 5.2 million euros and provide 1,857 square meters of usable space. 56 office workplaces, two machine training rooms, two training and four meeting rooms and a large conference room are to be created in the building. The concept should also include a boarding school for schoolchildren, students from Germany and abroad as well as skilled workers during their training. This concept aims to attract new skilled workers to the region and to counteract the shortage of skilled workers in the area.

Municipal day care center "Wermecker Grund"

The municipal day care center “Wermecker Grund” is also located at Wermecker Grund 15. It comprises 4 groups with children between 4 months and school entry age.

From a report by Lüdenscheider Nachrichten on April 17, 2013, it became known that by August 2013 she would get an extension for U3 care for 300,000 euros.

Construction work on the Wermecker Grund daycare center was completed in August 2013. In the new building, a group room with an adjoining room, a bedroom and a toilet with a changing table have been created on around 115 square meters. A small connecting corridor leads to the "old building" of the three-group daycare center, which with the addition of an extension at the end of August can now offer a fourth group for the toddlers. The new building made it possible to create ten new places for children under the age of three. The demand for U3 spaces is particularly high in this part of the city. A total of 298,000 euros in state and federal funds went into the cultivation.

Infrastructure

General

The structure of the district is mainly characterized by many detached single-family houses and terraced houses. In the course of the further part of the city, numerous multi-family houses from different building periods were built. Many of these houses have been extensively renovated in recent years. In addition to the residential buildings, there are a number of small shops in the district, u. A. a bakery, a flower shop and a supermarket on the upper Wehberger Straße, which at that time contained a discount chain and was taken over by a new owner a few years ago.

There are further shopping opportunities around the district on the main roads “Heedfelder Straße” and “Altenaer Straße”. These consist of both supermarkets and discount stores as well as shops from other sectors.

District court Lüdenscheid and main guard of the professional fire brigade Lüdenscheid

The Lüdenscheid district court and the main station of the Lüdenscheid professional fire brigade have been located on Dukatenweg for several years .

At that time, the old tax office of Lüdenscheid was housed in the building of the Lüdenscheid district court.

This moved a few years ago to the nearby site of the Lüdenscheid train station , as there was open space there for a larger new building for the tax office.

Connection to the train station of Lüdenscheid

The Bahnhofsallee adjacent to the district has been newly connected to Altenaer Strasse via Zum Weißen Pferd and has been usable for both car and bus traffic for several years. Since then, a footpath has also connected Bahnhofsallee with the upper part of the street Zum Weißen Pferd. Until then, the Bahnhofsallee had been a dead end for vehicles and pedestrians, which only extended to the end of the station area.

CVJM Youth Home Mathildenstrasse

The CVJM Lüdenscheid-West eV also maintains the Mathildenstrasse youth home at Mathildenstrasse 30, where various activities are offered.

Integrated into the house is the associated voluntary association “Die Bühnenmäuse”, which offers performances of a previously selected play several times a year and donates the money raised to humanitarian projects.

Commercial and industrial areas

A large part of the street Am Neuen Haus contains a number of smaller and larger companies that form a small commercial and industrial area.

Below the street Am Neuen Haus is another commercial and industrial area in the street Am Fuhrpark. The city cleaning, transport and construction company Lüdenscheid (STL) is also located there. He maintains his head office and recycling center there. Lt. According to a report in the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten of January 11, 2013, the area of the existing STL recycling yard is expected to increase by 2,000 m² to a total of 14,000 m² due to a massive lack of space. In accordance with the new requirements of the Recycling Management Act, additional disposal options for hard plastics or electronic waste such as televisions and refrigerators are required. The expansion is made possible by the fact that the existing buildings of the former Assmann engraving facility, right next to the recycling center, will soon be demolished and the site could then be used by the STL. In 2012 the recycling center already had a total of 249,561 customers.

At the Rahmedestraße 57 next to the street Am Fuhrpark there is also the location of the fire engine 1 (city center) of the volunteer fire brigade Lüdenscheid .

Car wash

In addition, a former petrol station at Altenaer Straße 33 was converted into a large car wash. The Iserlohn-based investor wants to invest a total of around two million euros there. Where a petrol station was in operation until recently, a car wash with 16 vacuum cleaner spaces and three to four self-service spaces was built over the summer of 2013 on around 3000 square meters. The earthworks began there first, in September 2013, but no later than in October 2013, the entrepreneur originally wanted to open. An underground water recovery system was built, everything should be very quiet. The area previously used for the petrol station should be able to expand, since the company still owns part of the embankment. Generous storage space and two entrances and exits have been planned in order to better equalize the expected crowd. The average is calculated with 300 vehicles a day, but the system could also manage 700 to 800 vehicles if necessary. In mid-December 2013 it was announced that the official opening of the car wash will be postponed to January 10, 2014.

graveyards

In addition, two larger cemeteries take up a large part of the district area and at the same time ensure that the originally green character of the district is clearly preserved. Numerous graves have been lavishly laid out over the past decades and centuries. The appearance of the tombstones and inscriptions has been designed to be particularly noticeable in some cases. Sometimes even small buildings decorate the graves and tombs. One of the most famous buildings in the cemeteries is the Selve family mausoleum . The two cemeteries are also criss-crossed by numerous old trees and meadows. Many footpaths in the cemeteries offer relatives the opportunity to visit the graves regularly.

Worth seeing

The different architectural styles of the Grünewald district and the extensive footpaths in the district invite you to take a walk. At the train station as well as the nearby Rathausplatz and Sternplatz in the city center itself, you can best see the massive development of the surrounding districts. There are some newly designed playgrounds for children in the district.

The Science Center Phenomenta Lüdenscheid is located on the south-eastern edge of the district . There are 120 interactive experiment stations that are designed to arouse visitors' interest in scientific contexts.

Transport links

Rail transport

The nearest station is near Station Lüdenscheid and alternatively in Lüdenscheider district Brugge the Brugge (Westfalen) station . Lüdenscheid train station can be reached in 5 - 10 minutes on foot, while Bruges (Westphalia) train station can be reached by car or bus in 20 - 30 minutes. The Bruges – Lüdenscheid railway itself runs directly through the district.

In addition, due to the large number of residents in the surrounding districts, the establishment of a stop at the Lüdenscheider district building was considered. However, due to the problematic topographical location, this would have been associated with very high costs. That is why the renovation of the Lüdenscheid train station took center stage and the project was not pursued any further for the time being.

Bus transport

The district is connected to local public transport mainly by bus routes 44, 51 and 254 (school bus route) as well as many other inner-city and regional bus routes operated by Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) and Busverkehr Ruhr-Sieg (BRS).

Important bus stops in the district are: "Kreishaus (I + II)", "MVG-Verwaltung", "Dammstraße", "Bahnübergang", "Wermecker Weg", "Evangelischer Friedhof", "Friedhofstraße", "Brüderstraße", "Gartencenter" Kremer ”(formerly“ Zum Weißen Pferd ”),“ Schmalspurstraße ”,“ Hauptpost ”,“ Bahnhof ”,“ Friedrichstraße ”,“ Christuskirche ”and“ Ludwigstraße ”.

Road traffic

The connection to the federal motorway network is via exits no.13 Lüdenscheid-Nord and no.14 Lüdenscheid of the federal motorway 45 . This leads north to Hagen and Dortmund and south to Siegen , Wetzlar , Gießen and Frankfurt am Main . Another junction is exit 15 Lüdenscheid-Süd of the A 45. The two federal highways B 54 and B229 are also close to Grünewald and can be easily reached within a few minutes by car. A few parking spaces within Grünewald ensure that drivers can park there.
