Gevelnorf is the name of a district and belongs to the statistical district 15 (Gevelnorf / Freisenberg ) of the district town of Lüdenscheid in the western Sauerland , North Rhine-Westphalia . Since 2010, the eastern district of Oberrahmede has also been included in the statistical district 15 (Gevelnorf / Freisenberg). The residential areas Hardt and Noell are now also included in the Gevelnorf district. The statistical district as a whole borders on Altena and Schalksmühle .

history

In addition to Wehberg, Freisenberg and Born, the Gevelnorf estate also belonged to the former Free County of Hülscheid . In 1487 the village of farmers and kettlers was first mentioned in a document with the name Hannes van Geverendorpe. In 1521 it is divided into three. The Uthergut zu Geverendorp, later also called Bernd-Jobs-Gut after its owner, was owned by the Spannagel family for several decades and in 1787 was still referred to as the “Royal Freygut”. A quarter of the courtyard appears as Kotten Heerwiese after 1700. In 1963 the widow Karl Junker owned the estate. The second estate named in 1531 was the Piper's farm in Geverendorpe, which suffered particularly badly from the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War. Since 1805 the farm has been owned by the Schmale family. The third farm in 1521 was Spannagels Gut, which was already owned by this family at that time. After the death of Johann Spannagel in 1651, the court was divided up by the courts. Eberhard Spannagel received the old house with most of the land and Christian Spannagel received the smaller part, on which he built a new manor building. The last owner of the house, which was demolished around the mid-1950s, was Wilhelm Feldhoff, the properties in the other part of the courtyard became Schmalescher's property. The longest preserved courtyard building in the old town center of Gevelnorf was that of the Schmales (photo). It was demolished in the early 1960s and stood in the area of today's houses on Kapellenweg. As in many places in the Rahmedetal, lime was also burned in Gevelnorf around 1800. The limestone pits were roughly between today's Astrid Lindgren School and the new buildings on the Brinker Höhe. The Brockhauser Weg, which long ago connected the Heedfelder Straße with the Rahmedetal, led through wide, undeveloped fields until the mid-1950s and was mainly used by farmers. When the first houses were built there a few years later and the road was expanded as a solid road, Gevelnorf still belonged to the municipality of Lüdenscheid-Land. It was not until 1969 that it was incorporated into the city of Lüdenscheid like many of the surrounding villages.

Infrastructure

The structure of the district is characterized by many detached single-family houses, terraced houses and numerous multi-family houses. Many of these houses have been extensively renovated in recent years. In addition to the residential buildings, there are also a number of shops in the district. A few retail and catering establishments are grouped especially on the upper and middle Brockhauser Weg. There are also several medical practices in the district.

On the upper Brockhauser Weg, Altenaer Straße and Gutenbergstraße there are areas with some smaller and larger commercial and industrial companies.

In the middle of Gevelnorf, at Brockhauser Weg 34, there is also the Gevelnorf elementary school of the city of Lüdenscheid. In addition to the school building, there is also a sports field and a gym on the premises. Once a year a school festival takes place on the premises. After politicians made the decision in October 2011 to integrate the Hermann-Gmeiner-Schule (am Dickenberg ) sub-site into the Gevelnorf primary school, the decision was fully implemented in summer 2012. At the same time, the existing Gevelnorf school is to be extensively renovated. In the run-up to the merger, there were sometimes massive protests from the parents of the children concerned and some local politicians who demanded that the location on Dickenberg be retained.

Two special schools of the Märkisches Kreis are located at Dannenbergstrasse 2a . The first school is the Astrid Lindgren School, which focuses on language (primary level). The second school is the Erich Kästner School, which has the special focus on emotional and social development (primary and secondary level I).

The Protestant cemetery Oberrahmede is located on the lower Dannenbergstrasse. The cemetery has a total area of 17,593 m². It consists of an older and a younger part. The older part of the cemetery is characterized by two crossing avenues of linden trees. The path system consists mainly of asphalt and concrete pavement, some side paths are laid out as gravel grass paths. Around 50 burials are carried out in this cemetery every year. The cemetery is managed by a local nursery and is, according to the sponsor, the Lüdenscheid-Plettenberg cemetery association, in a well-maintained condition.
