Piepersloh municipal cemetery

The “Piepersloh Communal Cemetery” is located on Werkshagener Strasse (also known as “Piepersloh Forest Cemetery”). The "Waldfriedhof Piepersloh" has a total area of around 58,000 square meters. It has around 4,000 graves and its own mourning hall . This can be reserved for funeral services on request. In addition to the traditional burial in the ground , there has also been the option of tree burial since 2006 . Since 2005 there has been a private crematorium in the direct vicinity of the cemetery .

Lt. According to an article from the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten of March 1, 2013, the old mourning hall from the "Piepersloh Forest Cemetery" has been replaced by a new building. The attached building complex was preserved, but was also modernized and made barrier-free. The demolition work on the old mourning hall was scheduled to begin in early March 2013. The new mourning hall is expected to open in late summer 2013. The total cost of the new building and renovation was 370,000 euros.

On April 3, 2013, another article appeared in the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten that the 65 square meter old mourning hall had already been torn down. If the weather permitted, a new floor slab was laid on the now exposed area of the old chapel, on which the new and 40 square meter larger mourning hall was built. In addition, there are now more than 80 seats in the mourning hall instead of the previous 65. The city of Lüdenscheid has invested around 370,000 euros in expanding the mourning hall. The resulting higher and lighter building has also been better insulated than the previous chapel. The area in which the coffin storage area and the toilet facility were housed will be retained. The sanitary facilities were renovated and made barrier-free. The new mourning hall should be ready in late summer 2013. Until then, the funeral services had taken place in the mourning room of the neighboring crematorium.

In a report in the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten on April 17, 2013, the city of Lüdenscheid once again confirmed that the construction of the new mourning hall will now cost 370,000 euros. According to the city administration of Lüdenscheid, the new building had already started.

The new, spacious interior offers more than 100 seats, which is much more open, wider and brighter than the one in the demolished old chapel. The interim solution with the two rental containers that were temporarily used as a place of mourning ends on October 31, 2013. Except for the floor slab, everything is new about the mourning hall, which is now also up to date with the latest energetic status. In addition, it is around 40 square meters larger and much higher than the old chapel, which only had around 60 seats and looked very dark. Large windows, attractive lighting and bright colors should create a friendly atmosphere in which the mourners should be able to say goodbye. By November 2013, barrier-free access to the already completed, handicapped-accessible toilets must be created. You are in the old farm building next to the new building. In addition, the levy is to be made even more attractive in spring 2014. The total costs for the new complex, including the sanitary facilities and the levy, amount to around 370,000 euros.
