Location of Vogelberg in Lüdenscheid

Vogelberg is the name of a district and belongs to the statistical district 06 (Vogelberg) of the district town of Lüdenscheid in the western Sauerland , North Rhine-Westphalia . The place name goes back to an old farm hamlet and a corridor in the north of the urban area. In the 1990s it was transferred to an extensive new building area east of the old settlement that had been created since then. The statistical district also includes outside areas northeast of the A 45 . Here are u. a. also the hamlets of Horringhausen , Ober- and Niederhunscheid and Bellmerei . In 2009 the Vogelberg had the youngest average age of the population of all of Lüdenscheid due to the influx of many young families next to the Kluse .

history

The Kotten zu Vogelsberge was first mentioned in writing in 1589. It was probably a much older settlement in the Wehberg peasantry , which later developed into a hamlet. In 1596 the corridor became known beyond the narrow regional framework through the official assembly on the Vogelberger Höhe . On March 25th of this year, the Altenaer Drost Ovelacker invited "according to the old tradition and well-established custom [...] then, to meet the requirements of the ostual relatives of the office on the Vogelberger Höhe as a common painting place [court] , [to] [confirm] the office's law, privileges and old traditions ”, as well as to negotiate current disputes. The course and content of the meeting are documented in several preserved files. On the neighboring Galgenberg to the east , known to this day for the street Am Galgenberg , there was probably already an execution site at that time. It was used by the Vestengericht Lüdenscheid and, for legal reasons, had to be outside the municipal field . Vogelberg village and corridor belonged to the parish Lüdenscheid and from 1843 to the municipality Lüdenscheid-Land , Amt Lüdenscheid . In 1969 it was incorporated into the city.

"Vogelberger bloody deed"

This name bears an event from the Prussian - Austrian war against revolutionary France . In 1794 seven Austrian deserters ended up in the hamlet of Vogelberg, where they were taken in by a farmer. However, a patrol from their regiment found out the whereabouts and, in order to avoid an escape, used a ruse to gain entry into the asylum. Six of the fugitives were massacred on the spot without further trial. The seventh escaped, stayed as a hook maker in Lüdenscheid and started a family.

Infrastructure

The new development area Vogelberg is characterized by a partly upscale single-family and semi-detached house development , as well as a few multi-family houses. The Erwin-Welke-Schule and a kindergarten have been built here in recent years .

Lüdenscheid's first wind turbine was built in the mid-1990s on the Leisberg to the north (424 m above sea level) . As a result of further developments and the influx of rather young families, the population in the new development area has increased further in recent years. The streets of the second, northern development section bear the names of Lüdenscheid opponents and victims of the regime in the Third Reich , such as Wilhelm Kattwinkel , Lieselotte Kahn or Willy Bürger .

In the south of the district, a discounter market with an attached bakery was also built on the former site of TÜV Nord . Between the streets “Lennestraße” and “Unterm Vogelberg” there is a small industrial area with a few businesses. Another small business center with a bakery, a hairdresser and a restaurant was built on the upper Lennestrasse.

At Fuelbeckerstraße 45, the “Association for the Care of Children of the Erwin-Welke-Schule eV” also maintains the Vogelberg youth club “after school”, which offers various activities.

Expansion of the new building area in the Kirchhahn district

On June 11, 2014, an article in the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten announced that another new development area in the Kirchhahn district had been officially designated. 18 new one or two family houses are to be built. The marketing is done by a private company. The land is leased from the Evangelical Church in Lüdenscheid. The advantages are seen in the fact that, despite the quiet location on the outskirts, it is not far to the shops in the center of Lüdenscheid .

Worth seeing

The old farming hamlet of Vogelberg has been partially preserved with its historical structure. Which until the 1990s attractive panoramic view from the hallway to the silhouette of the city is because of the new construction only very limited experience. In the north is the Fuelbecketalsperre, which can be easily reached by walking . Since the municipal reorganization in 1969, it has been located in the neighboring town of Altena . In the south of the district there is also the Lenneteich with an attached park, in which public events often take place.
