Dickenberg is the name of a district and belongs to the statistical district 16 (Dickenberg / Eggenscheid ) of the district town of Lüdenscheid in the western Sauerland , North Rhine-Westphalia . The district and the statistical district lie in the north of the urban area of ​​Lüdenscheid. Since 2010, the district of Dünnebrett to the west has also been included in the statistical district 16 (Dickenberg / Eggenscheid). Dickenberg belonged to the municipality Lüdenscheid-Land until December 31, 1968 .

Christian institutions

There used to be a Catholic church in the district, but it was dismantled in 2009. Services were stopped in 2005. It belonged to the former parish of Maria Königin . The next Catholic church is in Gevelnorf . In the evangelical community center, which belongs to the Oberrahmede church , a regular evangelical service is held.

At Dickenberg there is the Hermann-Gmeiner elementary school , which is a sub-location of the elementary school Gevelnorf. However, the school was closed for the 2012/2013 school year.

Shortly before the school was closed in spring 2012, information from politics became known that the school could possibly be continued by an independent organization. After negotiations with an interested private school from a neighboring town were broken because of different asking prices, the idea arose that further daycare places for children under 3 years of age could be created in the empty Hermann Gmeiner School.

The SOS Children's Village Sauerland is located in the Dickenberg district . It is one of two children's homes in Lüdenscheid. There are 60 permanent places in the children's village, as well as a clarification group and assisted living . The children's village also has childcare in the Lüdenscheid town hall. The children's village also maintains a family center on the premises. The family center with kindergarten is open to all residents of Dickenberg.

The CVJM Stadtverband eV also maintains the CVJM youth leisure center Rathmecke-Dickenberg at Rathmecker Weg 34, where various activities for children and young people are offered.
