Hugo Böhlau

Hugo Heinrich Albrecht Böhlau (born January 4, 1833 in Halle (Saale) , † February 24, 1887 in Werneck ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Hugo Böhlau studied law from 1850 to 1853 at the Friedrichs-Universität Halle , the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin . Since 1851 he was a member of the Corps Borussia Halle and the Corps Vandalia Heidelberg . After completing his doctorate in Halle in 1853 and training as an auscultator in Magdeburg and Erfurt , Böhlau completed his habilitation in Halle in 1855. Appointed associate professor for criminal law in Halle in 1859 , he followed the call of the Royal University of Greifswald to her chair in 1862 . In the following year he switched to the chair for criminal and procedural law at the University of Rostock . For almost two decades, Böhlau devoted himself to German law and the legal history of Mecklenburg. In addition to his seat on the legal examination commission, Hugo Böhlau was a professor at the Spruchfakultät and worked as an assessor perpetuus in the administration of the University of Rostock. For the academic years 1874/75 and 1878/79 Böhlau was elected Rector of the University of Rostock. In 1882 he accepted the call to the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . He fell ill a little later and had to stop teaching in 1885. In 1886 he went to the care and nursing home of Werneck , where he died in 1887 at the age of 54.
