The estate was first mentioned in 1554 as Buxfeld . However, it should be much older. In 1907 Johann Diedrich Rahmede's widow sold the estate to the city of Lüdenscheid . Mid-1960s, most of the Freihof was demolished, with the exception of the now under monument protection standing figurines , and the Richard-Schirrmann secondary school of the former Freihof was built on the site. The Kotten of the former Freihof and the surrounding area were completely renovated and redesigned from 2010 to 2012. Among other things, old trees were felled and the historic thatched roofs with roof tilesreplaced. Larger new window openings were also broken in, plastic windows were used and the old tennis gate was glazed. The original appearance was lost despite the existing monument protection. This sometimes led to protests among the population. According to the new owners, the old roof was no longer economical.
