Anna Polak
Anna "Ans" Polak (born November 24, 1906 in Amsterdam ; † July 23, 1943 in the Sobibor extermination camp ) was a Dutch gymnast .
At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 , she was Olympic champion in the all-around competition with the Dutch team. It was the first ever gold medal for Dutch women to have won the Olympic Games .
She was one of five gymnasts in the 1928 gold team who were of Jewish descent. In 1943 she was interned in the Westerbork transit camp with her husband Barend Dresden and their six-year-old daughter Eva . From there the family was deported to the Sobibór extermination camp , where they were murdered on July 23, 1943 together with their daughter. Her husband died in Auschwitz in 1944 .
The other gymnasts of the gold row of 1928, who were of Jewish descent, were also murdered by the National Socialists: Helena Nordheim , Estella Agsteribbe , Judikje Simons . Only Elka de Levie survived.
