Estella Agsteribbe
Estella "Stella" Agsteribbe (born April 6, 1909 in Amsterdam , † September 17, 1943 in the Auschwitz extermination camp ) was a Dutch gymnast .
About half of the Dutch gymnasts at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam were of Jewish descent. So also Estella Agsterribe, later Estella Blits-Agsterribe. She became Olympic champion in the all-around competition with the Dutch team. It was the first ever gold medal for Dutch women to have won the Olympic Games .
In September 1943 she was murdered together with her six-year-old daughter Nanny and her two-year-old son Alfred in the Auschwitz extermination camp . Her husband, Samuel Blits, died in Auschwitz on April 28, 1944.
With the exception of Elka de Levie , the other Jewish gymnasts of the gold row of 1928 were also murdered by the National Socialists : Helena Nordheim , Anna Polak and Judikje Simons .
A street is named after her in the West Frisian community of Heerhugowaard .
