Helena Nordheim
Helena "Lea" Nordheim (born August 1, 1903 in Amsterdam ; † July 2, 1943 in the Sobibor extermination camp ) was a Dutch gymnast .
At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 , she was Olympic champion in the all-around competition with the Dutch team. It was the first ever gold medal for Dutch women to have won the Olympic Games .
She was one of five gymnasts in the 1928 gold team who were of Jewish descent. In June 1943 she was interned with her husband Abraham Kloot and their ten-year-old daughter Rebecca in the Westerbork transit camp. From there the family was deported to the Sobibór extermination camp , where they were murdered in the gas chamber on July 2, 1943, immediately upon arrival .
The other gymnasts of the gold row of 1928, who were of Jewish descent, were also murdered by the National Socialists: Estella Agsteribbe , Anna Polak and Judikje Simons . Only Elka de Levie survived.
