Case of carriage

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Transport case is a technical term used in traffic planning and describes various parameters of transport demand in local public transport . The term describes people encountered in traffic counts, more precisely the event that a person was recorded in the count.

A distinction is made between company transport cases (UBF), company branch transport cases (BBF) and liner transport cases (LBF). Journalists and passenger associations like to point out the alleged hostility towards passengers by transport companies with reference to this term.

Corporate promotion cases

Corporate transport cases (UBF) is an identification number for a transport company. It is the number of trip chains in which passengers used one or more modes of transport of this transport company.

Business branch promotion cases

Branch transport cases (BBF) is a code number for different branches of operation (e.g. bus and tram) within a transport company. It is the number of trip chains in which passengers used one or more modes of transport of the corresponding branch of operation.

Liner transport cases

Liner transport cases (LBF) is a code number for a public transport line. It is the number of trip chains in which passengers have used a certain line and possibly others.

example

  • Transport company A operates bus line 1 and tram line 2 in the city
  • Transport company B operates bus line 3 in the city
  • A passenger first takes line 1, changes to line 2 and then changes to line 3

Significance in transport cases:

  • This one passenger in city M is 1 UBF each for both transport company A and transport company B.
  • for both the bus and tram branch of transport company A, it is a BBF
  • for lines 1, 2 and 3 it is an LBF each

avoidable mistakes:

  • The sum of the UBF does not correspond to the number of passengers in a city, but is higher (unless there is only one transport company in the city).
  • The sum of the BBF does not correspond to the passenger volume of a transport company, but is higher (unless the transport company only has one branch of operation).
