moFahr was a traffic information system , a Java- based offline timetable information for the mobile phone , which, in contrast to mobile versions of the EFA, does not require a data connection. Therefore, there are no data connection costs when using it and it is also possible to use it in situations with reception problems in the mobile network, for example while traveling on the bus or train. The program has been offered since early 2006. In the meantime the distribution has been stopped. The application could be used with any Java-enabled mobile device.

The transfer and installation of the moFahr data on the cell phone can alternatively take place without a cellular data connection via a PC and a data cable or Bluetooth .

Basic functions of moFahr

The basic functions are the departure monitor and the timetable . The departure monitor shows all future departures at the stop requested by the user . The timetable shows the sequence of stops of the line selected by the user with the respective departure times.

Frequently used stops can also be saved under the Favorites function .

For the timetable change in January 2009, moFahr was supplemented by a new function, the display of the nearest stops using GPS . To do this, moFahr automatically detects whether the cell phone has GPS (and sufficient GPS reception) and then automatically enables this new function.

Development of moFahr

moFahr is a development of the Münster University of Applied Sciences (laboratory for software engineering) and the cooperation partners MVG Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft GmbH, Stadtwerke Münster GmbH, Stadtwerke Hamm GmbH, Regionalverkehr Münsterland GmbH, Regionalverkehr Ruhr-Lippe GmbH and Verkehrsgesellschaft Kreis Unna mbH.

Further development - moFahr Apps

In November 2011, one is iPhone - app published by moFahr. In contrast to JAVA-offline-moFahr, it includes full online timetable information. A corresponding Android app was published in mid-2012. The apps were developed by beemo GmbH, a spin-off company from the laboratory for software engineering at the Münster University of Applied Sciences.
