The Lennesteilhang Garenfeld nature reserve with an area of 45.34 hectares is located in the area of the independent city of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The nature reserve (NSG) was designated in 1994 with the landscape plan of the city of Hagen by the city council of Hagen. In the north of the tip of the NSG is adjacent to the A 1 . In the north and north-east there is a forest area, agricultural areas, a substation and buildings with a sports field. The L 705 borders in the south. A little further south is the A 45 and the Lennetal bridge . Otherwise it is surrounded by forest. The main part of the Lenneaue Kabel nature reserve is only separated by the L 674 . The NSG is directly adjacent to a small part of the Lenneaue Kabel nature reserve. The river floodplain and Lenne are located in this NSG .

Area description

The NSG encompasses the steep wooded slope of the Garenfeld main terrace facing the Lenne. The NSG is 60 to 300 m wide. The steep slope has slopes of 50 to 60%. At the foot of the steep slope and in the cut Siepen valleys, the carbon sandstone emerges as exposed rock. The Siepen run across the steep slope. Small streams run in the Siepen, which arise from spring hollows in the upper area of the Siepen and drain into the Kahlenbergbach at the foot of the slope, which is dammed up to form ponds. The slope is continuously covered with largely natural to near-natural forest and represents the largest slope forest complex in the Hagen area.

Protection purpose

The NSG was designated as a nature reserve for the preservation and restoration of communities or habitats of certain wild plant and wild animal species as well as for the preservation and development of nationally significant biotopes of rare and endangered as well as typical wild plant and animal species of European importance .
