The Kaisbergaue nature reserve with an area of ​​20.22  hectares is located in the area of ​​the independent city of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The nature reserve (NSG) was designated in 1994 with the landscape plan of the city of Hagen by the city council of Hagen. It is located in the vestibule district . The NSG is adjacent to the Vorhalle sewage treatment plant to the west. In the north the Ruhr or the Harkortsee is the border. Otherwise mostly agricultural areas are adjacent. A railway line runs in the NSG. The southern beginning of the Ruhr Viaduct (Herdecke) lies in the NSG. The NSG borders the Harkortsee landscape protection area in the north . In the south to the landscape protection area Gut Hausen and landscape protection area Werdringen / Kaisberg .

Area description

The southern floodplain of the Ruhr lies in the NSG , while the Ruhr itself runs outside the NSG or only bank areas belong to the NSG. The Kaisbergweiher and other ponds are located in the NSG as the last relics of the old Volmelauf . The wooded northeast slope of the 185 m high Kaisberg is also located there. In the grassland, there are also poor and wet meadows such as the oat meadow. The banks of the pond are populated by reeds and vineyards.

Early Ruhr mining sites such as the deepest and oldest coal seam Sengsbank and the Kaisberg conglomerate are present in the NSG .

Protection purpose

The NSG was designated as a nature reserve for the preservation and restoration of communities or habitats of certain wild plant and wild animal species as well as for the preservation and development of nationally significant biotopes of rare and endangered as well as typical wild plant and animal species of European importance .

Prohibitions and requirements in the NSG

In the NSG, the use of all Kaisbergweiher ponds for fishing is prohibited . In the rest of the NSG there are restrictions for anglers.
