The Uhlenbruch nature reserve with an area of 15.37 hectares is located in the area of the independent city of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The nature reserve (NSG) was designated in 1994 with the landscape plan of the city of Hagen by the city council of Hagen. It is in the Bathey district . The NSG is located between Hengsteysee and A 1. The Hengstey marshalling yard is adjacent to the north. Otherwise mostly agricultural areas are adjacent. In addition, there is also a substation, a sewage treatment plant and an allotment garden.

Area description

The NSG includes a forest area with floodplain and swamp forests and ponds. In the plant world one finds from open two-tooth corridors over Großseggenrieder, reeds up to the quarry forest. There are species such as great meadow button, water common rag, marsh chickweed, broad-leaved orchid, water fumes, eared milfoil, frog bite, pond horsetail, water star, crab claw. The NSG is important for birds that breed, hibernate, migrate and seek food such as moorhen, teal duck, Limikolen, diving and swimming ducks and gray herons. In the ponds there are water frogs, pond newts, mountain newts and crested newts.

Protection purpose

The NSG was designated as a nature reserve for the preservation and restoration of communities or habitats of certain wild plant and wild animal species as well as for the preservation and development of nationally significant biotopes of rare and endangered as well as typical wild plant and animal species of European importance .

Prohibitions and requirements in the NSG

In the NSG, the forestry management of the floodplain and swamp forests and the forestry management of the mixed oak forests is prohibited with the exception of individual logs . A number of special requirements have been issued for the NSG . One of the imperatives is the conversion of the non-local poplar forest into indigenous trees.
