The Henkhauser- and Hasselbachtal nature reserve (2016)

The nature reserve Henkhauser- und Hasselbachtal is located in the area of the independent city of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The nature reserve is located in the Hohenlimburg-Henkhausen district of Hagen along the Hasselbach and the Henkhauser Bach. The protected area includes a multi-branched stream system and tributaries of the Henkhauser and Hasselbach to the east of Henkhausen. The z. T. notched valley areas are predominantly covered with hardwood species, u. a. also existed with alders and ash trees. East of the confluence of the two stream systems is a large oak forest with admixture of beech. In the northern part of the area there are several hillside meadows or fallow meadows with dry grass vegetation. In some areas there are fallow meadows. Several, e.g. Quarries that are partly covered with bushes are spread over the entire protected area.

The 56.7540 hectare area has been registered under the identification number HA-015 since 1992 because of the special nature and the outstanding beauty of the extensive stream floodplain forest with adjacent deciduous forests and because of the international importance of a geological outcrop in the Hasselbachtal for scientific and geological reasons (directional profile of the Devonian Carbon limit) designated as a nature reserve. The protection objective is the preservation and restoration of communities or habitats of certain wild plant and animal species of the Henkhauser and Hasselbach valleys and the preservation, development and promotion of the Bach floodplain forests with their characteristic plant species as well as the typical communities of the low mountain streams.
