The Kaarster station is one of five rail Keep in Kaarst and stop on the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn . It is located on the Neuss – Viersen railway line , which runs on a single track near the station. Until 1999 it was called Kaarst and today it is one of the few train stations that contain the word Bahnhof in their name. The station has been dismantled to the halt.

history

The station was opened in 1878 on the Neuss – Viersen railway line as the first station in Kaarst. From 1900 to 1992 Kaarst was also used as a freight station, especially for the neighboring auction and the feed factory on the other side of the North Canal. The first station building from 1878 was replaced by a new one in 1955, which was also demolished in 1999 when the Regiobahn took over. The construction of the train station meant a revolution for Kaarst, as it made it possible for trade and industry to settle in Kaarst.

The German railway , the railway lines wanted Neuss-Viersen and Dusseldorf-Geressheim-Mettmann in the 1990s shut down due to the worn condition. Because the railway line between Kaarst and Mettmann is particularly attractive for commuters in the direction of Düsseldorf, the mayor's offices resisted the closure plans. They founded the Regiobahn GmbH , bought the line, renovated it and switched it to S-Bahn operation. Since then the only line of the Regiobahn, the S-Bahn line  28 from Kaarst to Mettmann, has been running on this route.

The regional train called the station Kaarst in Kaarst station to because it operates three other stations in Kaarst, including the neighboring also centrally located station Kaarst Mitte / Holzbüttgen . By renaming it to Kaarster Bahnhof, the station could be better distinguished from the others.

Location and structure

The station is located in the southern inner city of Kaarst at the intersection of Büttgener Straße / Kaarster Straße / Neersener Straße south of the north canal . Kaarst city center has a second access with the Kaarst Mitte / Holzbüttgen stop . The station consists of a side platform, which is accessible via ramps. Like all pure Regiobahn stations, the platforms at Kaarst Bahnhof are red. The station has a Kiss & Ride area with five parking spaces, a taxi stand and bicycle boxes. The restaurant Holzbüttger Krug was located next to the train station and was demolished for the purpose of expanding the station. There is also a car recycling facility nearby.

The station also has a signal box, which has been out of service since 1999.
