The Düsseldorf Airport Terminal station is a tunnel and terminal station opened in 1975 in the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital Düsseldorf .

It is located below Terminal C of Düsseldorf Airport and is the terminus of line S 11 of the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn and the terminus of the Düsseldorf-Unterrath – Düsseldorf Airport Terminal railway line .

expansion

The station has two tracks with a central platform that is 96 centimeters above the top of the rails and has a maximum usable length of 228 meters.

After Düsseldorf Airport, the train station is the smaller of the two airport train stations in Düsseldorf. The final stop of the SkyTrain is in the immediate vicinity of the train station .

In the time from the airport fire in 1996, in which Terminals A and B were badly damaged, until the completion of the renovation work in 2001, there was still the Düsseldorf Airport Terminal E stop at the airport to connect the temporary departure hall E. Since the abolition of the Provisionally, all trains pass this stop without stopping.

If the planned main route 5 is realized, there would also be a connection to the Düsseldorf light rail network at the airport terminal .

service

The S 11 runs every 20 minutes via Düsseldorf main station and on to Bergisch Gladbach station . Until December 12, 2009 the station was connected to Solingen by the S 7 line. In the past, the S 21 line also stopped here and ran over a connecting curve to the route to Duisburg.

As early as December 10, 2007, line S 11, which at the time ended at Düsseldorf Wehrhahn station, was to be extended to Düsseldorf Airport Terminal station and line S 7 was to be canceled. Contrary to these plans, however, the old lines remained for two years.

The changes were finally decided by the VRR Board of Directors in June 2009 and implemented when the timetable changed on December 13, 2009 (2010 timetable).

At night, the station is served by individual Regional Express trains: the Wupper Express runs from Aachen Hauptbahnhof and the NRW Express from Dortmund Hauptbahnhof . Furthermore, individual journeys on other S-Bahn lines serve the station at night.

In addition, the airport is currently served by four bus routes (arrivals level, Terminal B).

From March 27, 1983 to May 23, 1993 this was the northern terminus of the Lufthansa Airport Express . The Wiesbaden-City wagons also drove to this airport station in the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia at times.
