The Cologne train station Worringen is a train station in Cologne district of rye / Thenhoven at the Lower Left Rhine Railway . It is assigned to category 5 and served by the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr or S-Bahn Cologne .
history
The Cologne-Crefelder Railway Company opened on 15 November 1855, the first section of its Lower Left Rhine Railway between the former Krefeld train station in Cologne and Neuss train station. On the same day, the station of the then still independent mayor of Worringen was put into operation. This was incorporated into Cologne in 1922 and the station was renamed Cologne-Worringen.
The former station building from 1864 was listed as a historical monument in 1986. In the course of the expansion of the S-Bahn line from Cologne-Chorweiler in 1988, it was demolished and rebuilt in Cologne-Nippes on the site of a parish.
International express trains also ran between Cologne and Nijmegen on the left-hand Lower Rhine route. For this reason, the line was provided with an electrical overhead line and it was put into operation on May 27, 1962.
As part of the construction of the Cologne S-Bahn , a branch line from Cologne-Longerich on the left-hand Lower Rhine line via Cologne-Chorweiler to Cologne-Chorweiler North was opened on June 1, 1975. The extension of this line via Cologne-Blumenberg to Cologne-Worringen and thus back to the left-hand Lower Rhine line then went into operation on June 2, 1985. To increase the line capacity, a threading is the main route north of the platform height freely created. In addition to the continuous tracks on the main line, there is also an overtaking track.
With the completion of the Chorweiler loop, the express trains and all other local transport connections were discontinued, instead the S-Bahn line S 11 continued via Worringen to Neuss. Since the timetable change on December 14, 2014, the S-Bahn line S 6 has also been running via the Chorweiler loop to Cologne-Worringen instead of to Köln-Nippes and ends there.
