The Langenfeld (Rheinland) station is one of two stations with passenger transport in the city Langenfeld (Rheinland) in North Rhine-Westphalia and station of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn .

Location and structure

The train station is located on the outskirts of Langenfeld-Mitte and is particularly important for commuters in the Düsseldorf and Cologne areas . The Langenfelder Markt is about 1.4 km from the train station. The Langenfeld train station is particularly important for the neighboring town of Monheim , which does not have its own rail connection. Both from the road connection - the B 229 connects Langenfeld station directly with Monheim - as well as via the convenient bus connection of several buses along the B 229, the station can be reached quickly from Monheim on a very short route. The Monheim bus station is about 3.7 km west of Langenfeld train station.

The station itself consists of the station part S-Bahnhof in the northern area and the actual station in the southern area. There is a sweeping track south of the S-Bahn platform. In the southernmost part of the station the track branches off to the transfer station of the railways of the city of Monheim .

history

Langenfeld (Rhineland) station was opened in 1845 on the Cologne – Duisburg railway line. In December 1968 it became the southern terminus of the S6 of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn . In the course of the expansion of the Cologne – Düsseldorf line and the extension of the S-Bahn to Cologne, the new S-Bahn platform was laid in the north of the previous station around 1990.

service

The S-Bahn station Langenfeld (Rheinl) on line S 6 of the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr has a central platform with access via a pedestrian tunnel to the Alter Knipprather Weg street . Right next to the train station there is a bus station , which is served by seven bus lines and two night lines, as well as a park-and-ride car park. The 200 bus routes are operated by the VRS , the 700 bus routes are operated by the railways of the city of Monheim and the Rheinbahn (company) .

view

According to the NVP , Langenfeld (Rhineland) S is the most frequented train station in the Mettmann district with 5,573 people getting on and off the SPNV, including 2,658 transfer passengers. Every day, passengers switch between buses to the S-Bahn. Due to its high frequency of use, considerations arose to upgrade it to a regional express stop.

Some RRX plans provided for Langenfeld to become an RRX stop. For this purpose, a new platform should be built, with which Langenfeld saw an opportunity to be better reached in regional rail traffic. However, no RRX stop is planned in the current plans. Since the number of parking spaces for Park and Ride is already too low in the status quo , a new, larger Park and Ride car park is to be built at Langenfeld station.
