Former storage building and silos of the Heiligenhaus train station with panoramic bike path (Niederbergbahn route), seen from the west

The station Heiligenhaus is a former railway station in the Holy House . It is located on the now dismantled route of the Niederbergbahn between Velbert and Essen- Kettwig .

history

In 1926, after a construction period of more than 13 years, the Niederbergbahn from Kettwig Stausee via Heiligenhaus to Wülfrath was completed. Besides the Isenbügel and Heiligenhaus Sportfeld stops, the station was the only station in the city of Heiligenhaus.

He had five tracks on the single-track line, one of which had a platform.

Passenger traffic was stopped as early as 1960 and the route from Heiligenhaus to Kettwig was broken off. Until the official end of operation in 1994, the station remained the terminus of the Niederbergbahn, which was still used for freight traffic. After several years of vacancy, the building was sold in 1988. Today it is used as a mosque and houses an Islamic cultural association of the DITIB .

In addition to the main building, a grain silo and a former storage building have also been preserved. The latter now houses a café with a coffee roastery , which is connected to the Niederbergbahn panorama bike path.

The Heiligenhaus wagon bridge is in the immediate vicinity .
