Railway stations in North Rhine-Westphalia |
The Hilden Süd stop is the second train station in the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Hilden in the Mettmann district , along with Hilden train station . Both are on the Düsseldorf – Solingen railway line and are served every 20 minutes by the S 1 line of the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn . The Hilden Süd stop is about 11 km southeast of Düsseldorf main station and about 6 km west of Solingen main station . Like most of the other train stations in the Mettmann district, it is particularly important for commuters to the city of Düsseldorf.
Location and structure
The Hilden Süd stop is located on the southern edge of the city center. It is on the Düsseldorf – Solingen railway line . In the city center, it is located near the intersection of the main streets Richrather Straße and Kirchhofstraße directly on the connecting street Talstraße .
It has two tracks with outside platforms . These can be reached barrier-free via ramps. The platforms each have two exits. Both platforms have westwards an output in the Richrather road (only one wheelchair accessible), to the east of the northern platform has a barrier-free output in the Hagelkreuz Street and the southern platform barrier-free starting in the valley road over which one each after a short distance the Kirchhofstraße reached .
The two bus stops Hilden Süd S are in Kirchhofstraße and Lindenplatz, a third bus stop Talstraße / Hilden Süd S is in Richrather Straße. The Hilden Süd S bus stop does not yet have DFI displays and barrier-free platforms, but this is set to change soon.
history
The Hilden - Ohligs-Wald railway (later Ohligs, then Solingen-Ohligs, today Solingen Hbf ) was put into operation on January 3, 1894. With the closing of this gap, a continuous rail connection was created between Düsseldorf Hbf via Hilden and Ohligs-Wald to Solingen Weyersberg . With the commissioning of the Müngstener Bridge on July 15, 1897, a further extension was made via Remscheid to Lennep . In the Hilden - Ohligs-Wald section, which was opened on January 3, 1894, there were initially no intermediate stations.
The Hilden Süd stop was put into operation when the timetable changed on September 26, 1976. It was a structural preliminary work for the S-Bahn operation on the S 7 Düsseldorf Airport - Düsseldorf Hbf - Hilden - Solingen-Ohligs (today Solingen Hbf ), which went into operation on September 28, 1980. During the planning process it was found that the Hilden train station on the western edge of the Hilden city center only offered links to bus services in an east-west direction from / to Düsseldorf-Benrath and Haan and Solingen-Ohligs . In order to connect the bus lines in the north-south direction to the S-Bahn and for better development of the southern urban area, the creation of a second S-Bahn stop was necessary, which is now served by bus lines that not only serve the inner-city fine development, but also establish connections to the neighboring communities of Langenfeld , Erkrath and Erkrath-Hochdahl and beyond Erkrath to the district town of Mettmann , which could not have been established from Hilden train station in the long term, even from a geographical point of view.
With the timetable change on December 13, 2009, the network of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn was revised. The S 7 was omitted, its tasks were taken over by two other S-Bahn lines. Its north branch ( Düsseldorf Airport Terminal - Düsseldorf Hbf ) fell to the S 11 and its south branch ( Düsseldorf Hbf - Solingen Hbf ) fell to the S 1. Since then, the stop has been served by line S 1. The line number S 7 has been used since December 15, 2013 for the diesel-powered line Solingen Hbf - Remscheid-Lennep - Wuppertal Hbf , whose trains run twice in each direction to and from Düsseldorf Hbf from Monday to Friday during rush hour, but only on in Hilden Hilden station and do not stop in Hilden Süd.
service
The Hilden Süd stop is served every 20 minutes by the S 1 line of the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn . This is where you can change to bus lines 741, 781, 782 and 785, as well as to the lines DL 4 and DL 5 of the Rheinbahn during night traffic . The Hilden Süd S bus stop is classified as a more important transfer hub than the Hilden S stop .

Planning
According to the local traffic plan of the Mettmann district, Hilden Süd S is the second busiest station after Langenfeld, with around 5000 people getting on and off the S 1. With 3171 people getting on and off every day, it ranks eighth among the bus stops most frequented in the Mettmann district. With around 931 people changing between the bus and the S-Bahn per day, there is relatively little demand for it compared to the roughly 1,600 people changing between the buses. This is due, among other things, to their confusing situation. The city of Hilden is planning to improve the clarity of the train station by signposting the train to the bus stops, but also between the bus stops.
