The Dusseldorf-Eller station is located about 7 kilometers south-east of Düsseldorf main station in Düsseldorf district of Eller . It is located on the Troisdorf - Mülheim-Speldorf railway line . The Düsseldorf Hbf - Düsseldorf-Eller line branches off at the station . The station belongs to station category 5 and is also the stop of several bus lines.
On April 1, 1985, the former station building was entered in the city's list of monuments in the Technical Monuments category .
Location and structure
The station is located in north-eastern outskirts of Düsseldorf district of Eller . It has four through tracks. The northern tracks 4 and 5 are the through tracks of the Troisdorf - Opladen - Hilden - Düsseldorf-Eller - Mülheim-Speldorf freight train line and have no platform. The central track is used to thread the single-track Abzw. Sturm - Eller line, which has existed since 1980, into the Troisdorf – Mülheim-Speldorf connection. The southern tracks 1 and 2 are on the Dusseldorf - Solingen railway line used by S-Bahn trains on the S1 and S7 lines . Between these two tracks there is a central platform with access to Vennhauser Allee. The platform is now barrier-free thanks to subsequent adjustments .
The station signal box, a Sp Dr S60 type relay signal box , was put into operation on April 1, 1979 and is located on the south side of the station east of the former station building at the level of the platform. Before it was put into operation, there were two mechanical interlockings at the west head and at the east head, which were canceled immediately after the relay interlocking was commissioned. The signal box at the Westkopf was also responsible for closing the Vennhauser Allee level crossing.
history
The railway line Troisdorf - Opladen - Hilden - Düsseldorf-Eller - Mülheim-Speldorf and with it the Eller station was opened by the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft on November 18, 1874. Previously, the Benrath train station and the first Düsseldorf train station on the main line of the Cologne-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft had been the train stations for Eller since December 20, 1845 , as Reisholz train station did not go into operation until 1899. The routes of the Cologne-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft and the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft run largely parallel, which was a result of the competition between private railway companies in the 19th century. In the course of Bismarck's nationalization policy , both the Cologne-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft and the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft were nationalized with effect from April 1, 1881. The uniform operational management by the state meant that the Troisdorf - Mülheim-Speldorf railway through Eller became primarily an important freight train axis with insignificant and later completely discontinued passenger traffic.
On October 1, 1891, together with the first Düsseldorf main station , a new railway line was opened from there to Eller station, so that there was a continuous rail connection between Düsseldorf Hbf and Hilden via Eller. With the commissioning of the Hilden - Ohligs-Wald railway line (later Solingen-Ohligs, today Solingen Hbf ) on January 3, 1894, it was extended via Ohligs-Wald to what was then Solingen's main station. With the commissioning of the Müngstener Bridge on July 15, 1897, a further extension was made via Remscheid to Lennep .
Electric operation on both routes began when the timetable changed on May 27, 1962. Most passenger trains ran with diesel locomotives until the S7 line went into operation, as the line from Hilden to Solingen-Ohligs (today Solingen Hbf ) was not yet electrified. Only the local trains from Düsseldorf Hbf via Hilden to Opladen , which only ran Monday to Friday 3 times a day, were operated electrically. The trains on the Düsseldorf Hbf - Remscheid-Lennep - Wuppertal-Vohwinkel line also had to use the heavily loaded freight train line Troisdorf - Opladen - Hilden - Düsseldorf-Eller - Mülheim-Speldorf until July 30, 1979 in the Düsseldorf-Eller - Hilden section , which often led to delays.
In the course of the structural preparations for the S-Bahn operation on the S7 Düsseldorf Airport - Düsseldorf Hbf - Solingen-Ohligs line , which went into operation on September 28, 1980, the Abzw. Sturm section (near the Düsseldorf-Eller stop Mitte ) - Düsseldorf-Eller to 3 tracks (commissioning 1980) and the Düsseldorf-Eller - Hilden section to 4 tracks (commissioning July 30, 1979), so that passenger trains have been able to run undisturbed by freight traffic ever since. Further construction measures concerned the removal of the Vennhauser Allee level crossing and its replacement by a street underpass with bus stops and the construction of a central platform that can be reached from the Vennhauser Allee underpass. Previously, the trains in the direction of Hilden stopped at the house platform in front of the station building , which was still used by the DB at that time, and in the direction of Düsseldorf Hbf at a narrow intermediate platform that could only be reached from the house platform by crossing the track in the direction of Hilden . Simultaneously with the start of operation of the S7 to Solingen-Ohligs , electrical operations between Hilden and Solingen-Ohligs also went into operation on September 28, 1980 .
With the commissioning of the S-Bahn traffic on September 28, 1980, the station was initially served by the S7 Düsseldorf Airport - Düsseldorf Hbf - Hilden - Solingen-Ohligs line, supplemented by individual journeys on the S1 Dortmund line in the following years during rush hour Hbf - Duisburg Hbf - Düsseldorf Hbf that have been extended beyond Düsseldorf Hbf to / from Hilden or Solingen-Ohligs . With the timetable change on December 13, 2009, the network of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn was revised. The S7 was omitted, its tasks were taken over by two other S-Bahn lines. Its north branch ( Düsseldorf Airport Terminal - Düsseldorf Hbf ) fell to the S11 and its south branch ( Düsseldorf Hbf - Solingen Hbf ) fell to the S1. Since then, Düsseldorf-Eller station has been served by the S1 line. Line number S7 has been used since December 15, 2013 for the diesel-powered line Solingen Hbf - Remscheid-Lennep - Wuppertal Hbf , whose trains run twice in each direction to and from Düsseldorf Hbf from Monday to Friday during rush hour, but only in Düsseldorf-Eller the breakpoint Dusseldorf-Eller Mitte hold and not in the station Dusseldorf-Eller.
Station building
The station building was built in 1872 as a brick structure. In 1909 a waiting room was added. With the commissioning of today's central platform , which can be reached without crossing the tracks, in 1979, the building was no longer used for railway purposes, but made available to artists as studios. In 1982 the first public exhibition took place, followed by over 100 other exhibitions in which more than 400 artists took part. In 1986 the Freundeskreis Kulturbahnhof Eller eV was founded.
Lines
The station is currently served by an S-Bahn line, a Metrobus line and four bus lines.
