The Dortmund-Dorstfeld station is the second S-Bahn node in Dortmund next to the Dortmund main station . It has four high tracks that can be reached via two central platforms and two low tracks that can be reached via side platforms. This construction is called the tower station . The operating location abbreviation is EDDP (former Federal Railway Directorate E ssen , D ortmund- D orstfeld train station , P ersonenbahnhof), the international train station number is 8000081 . The station belongs to category 3 .
Traffic importance
The station is served by the three lines of the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr , the S 1 from Dortmund to Solingen , the S 2 from Dortmund to Herne (on to Recklinghausen or Essen ) and the S 4 from Dortmund-Lütgendortmund station to Unna . All three lines were operated by DB Regio NRW GmbH until December 2019 and ran every 20 minutes during the day from Monday to Friday, and every half hour to the edge of the day , on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Since December 2019, the S 2 S-Bahn line has been operated by Abellio Rail NRW with class 3427 multiple units, also known as FLIRT 3 XL . The station is important as a transfer station because the S 4 does not go to today's main station due to the historical route (it uses the Welver – Sterkrade line of the Royal Westphalian Railway Company ). The S 4 coming from Unna and the S 2 coming from the main train station are waiting for each other as are the S 4 coming from Lütgendortmund and the S 2 coming from Herne, you can change on the same platform. The S 1 crosses the station underground and is connected to the other lines by stairs and elevators.
In addition to the S-Bahn, the station is also served by three bus routes operated by the Dortmund municipal utility . Lines 447, 465 and 466 also run here every 20 minutes from Monday to Friday, and every half hour to the edge of the day , on Saturdays as well as on Sundays and public holidays. The VRR tariff applies to the bus lines approaching the train station and the S-Bahn lines ; the NRW tariff applies across the network .
In addition to the 4 platforms above ground and the 2 platforms below ground, there are also 2 tracks (above ground) for freight trains. Freight trains occasionally run there.

Access structure
The access structure leads over the tracks and has stairs and lifts to all platforms. It is a functional building that the Deutsche Bundesbahn had built in the 1980s when the S-Bahn was introduced in Dortmund. There is no classic train station structure.
history
The first train station existed in Dortmund-Dorstfeld as early as 1874, but it no longer exists today. The current station was opened on September 24, 1983, when the S 1, which until then ended at Bochum Hauptbahnhof , was extended to Dortmund. It does not use the old line of the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahngesellschaft , but a new line from the 1980s that runs through tunnels and over a large number of engineering structures to develop the Technical University of Dortmund . On May 25, 1984, the S 4 was added above ground, which until then had been served in advance by class 212 locomotives with silver coins. On June 3, 1991, the S 2 was opened, which between Dortmund-Dorstfeld and Dortmund-Mengede station does not use the old line of the Cologne-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft , but a former freight line, which the Deutsche Bundesbahn had expanded, around the north-west of Dortmund better to tap into.
Signal box
The signal box Ddf ( D ortmund- D orstfeld, F ahrdienstleiter) of the type Sp Dr S 60 was opened in 1983 with the train station. It is located on the above-ground part of the train station. In addition to the Dorstfeld station, the Lütgendortmund, Huckarde Süd stations and the remaining part of the nearby Dortmunderfeld marshalling yard are also controlled from there. The long-distance section of the Ddf signal box is remote-controlled from the Dhf signal box (Dortmund main station).
