Railway stations in North Rhine-Westphalia |
The Unna station is the main passenger station of the Westphalian county town of Unna . Other train stations in the city that are regularly served by passenger traffic are Unna-Königsborn, Unna West, Massen, Lünern and Hemmerde .
The station counts around 10,000 travelers and visitors and around 200 trains per day.
history
The station was built in 1855 on the Dortmund – Soest line of the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (BME) and equipped with a representative station building.
In 1866 the BME built a line from Unna to Hamm to the main line of the Cologne-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft , which was later continued to the Hagen-Hamm line , making Unna station a transfer station of regional importance.
The Prussian State Railways then built a railway line from Fröndenberg to Kamen to connect the three east-west lines in this area. The southern part was opened in 1899 and is now connected to the Hönnetalbahn to Neuenrade. The northern part was initially opened for freight traffic in 1900 and a year later also for passenger traffic. Today, this route is only used as far as Unna-Königsborn, namely by S-Bahn line 4 of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn .
Between 1909 and 1950 the Unna – Kamen – Werne small railway connected the Unna station with the Kamen station.
service
There are currently no long-distance passenger rail trains stopping in Unna . As part of the Deutsche Bahn “IC-neu” project, Unna station is to become a stop on an intercity line from December 2020 . This then leads from Münster via Hamm, Unna and Siegen to Frankfurt. The following lines operate in local rail transport:
Bus transport
The train station also serves as the city's central bus hub . There are inner-city bus routes (numbered from C40 to C45), as well as regional bus services to neighboring cities. The bus station is served by the Unna district transport company .
The architecture of the bus station enjoys some popularity and is popularly referred to as the "surfboard". In addition, the construction received an award from the NRW Ministry of Construction.
