The Wuppertal-Oberbarmen station is a passenger train in Wuppertal District Oberbarmen . With four connected railway lines, it was an important railway junction for a long time . Today only the Wuppertal-Oberbarmen – Solingen line branches off from the main Wuppertal – Dortmund line that runs through the station .
history
The station was opened on October 9, 1847 by the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft under the name Barmen-Rittershausen . In 1930 the name was changed to Wuppertal-Oberbarmen.
Until 1910 there was a railway depot between the tracks and the Rosenau street , which was relocated to Wuppertal-Langerfeld . During the Second World War, the station and the station building were badly damaged. After a partial demolition by the Deutsche Bundesbahn after the Second World War, the station was redesigned in the 1980s as part of the opening of the S8 . Today there is a block-shaped functional building with a kiosk, a bakery shop and a McDonald’s branch.
In the prime of its years there was next to the continuous Elberfeld-Dortmund railway line a triangle to the railway line to Opladen and Solingen, as well as the railway line Wuppertal-Oberbarmen-Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen as a connection to the railway line Düsseldorf-Derendorf-Dortmund Süd and to the railway line Wuppertal- Wichlinghausen – Hattingen .
Wuppertal-Oberbarmen was also an important freight station for a long time. The last freight tracks were removed in 2006, however, and a hardware store was built on the site.
Todays situation
All long-distance passenger rail trains only run through. However, all local trains going through the valley stop . The Wupper-Express , the Rhein-Münsterland-Express and the Maas-Wupper-Express serve the station every hour. The Rhein-Wupper-Bahn was extended back to Wuppertal-Oberbarmen in 2015 and serves the station every half hour. The S 7 and S 8 lines come every 20 minutes via the local tracks and connect the station with Hagen (20–40), the state capital Düsseldorf , Mönchengladbach , Remscheid and the Wuppertal main train station .
Today the station corresponds to station category 3.
Wuppertal-Oberbarmen is also an important link between rail and city traffic. The suspension railway has its eastern end point here, and there is also a bus station, which is served by many lines of the Wuppertaler Stadtwerke and the Ennepe-Ruhr transport company .
The Wupper Express and the S 8 are served by the DB Regio - Region NRW . The remaining lines are operated by other railway companies . The Maas-Wupper-Express has been operated by the Eurobahn for 16 years since the timetable change in December 2009 . The Rhein-Münsterland-Express as well as the Rhein-Wupper-Bahn from National Express and the line S 7 from Abellio Rail NRW .
Platforms
Today there are three platforms with a total of six tracks. Local trains stop at tracks 2 and 3; they are also used for long-distance trains to pass through. Lines S 8 and S 7 stop at tracks 5 and 6. These tracks are also the only ones with barrier-free access. The other platforms cannot be reached by wheelchair users without assistance.
