The suspension railway station Kluse , named after the location Kluse , is an intermediate station of the Wuppertal suspension railway . It is located near the center of the Elberfeld district of Wuppertal in North Rhine-Westphalia . The so-called culture island with the large cinema Cinemaxx is located in the immediate vicinity. The station is in the area of the waterway above the Wupper and is located between pillars 266 and 267. Until 2013, the station was nicknamed the Schauspielhaus . The predecessor structure destroyed in World War II lay between pillars 268 and 269 and was at times called Bembergstrasse .
history
The station was opened on March 1, 1901 as the end point of the first section of the suspension railway. At the eastern end of the station there was a turning loop , which became obsolete after the opening of the Kluse – Oberbarmen section.
During the air raids on Elberfeld , the station was shelled by the British Royal Air Force on the night of June 24th to 25th, 1943 and burned down. In 1954 the facility, which was directly connected to the shoring, was finally dismantled. The Stadtwerke decided against the reconstruction because the Wuppertal tram , which still existed at the time, also served the area.
After the tram was stopped in 1987, the area was only insufficiently served by bus, so it was decided to build the new station. The first groundbreaking took place on February 28, 1997, the opening on March 26, 1999. Since then there are again 20 stations.
construction
The stop is the only one where the entire hall structure is visible from below; the platforms float over the Wupper. The two staircases follow the polygonal swinging roof contours. Kluse is considered to be the most modern suspension railway stop and is shown in many brochures and travel guides. The architects responsible were Bernward von Chamier and Francisco Molina .
traffic
The station is served by the only line on the suspension railway - line 60. The bus lines 611, 612, 622 and 628 as well as the NE5 night bus also stop at the station. All lines (including the suspension railway) are operated by WSW mobil GmbH. In the event of a breakdown , the use of the E60 bus, the so-called Schwebebahn-Express, is provided.
