The WSW mobil GmbH , shortly WSW is a near transport companies in the city of Wuppertal and a member of the transport association Rhein-Ruhr (VRR). In 2007 the Wuppertal public utilities spun off their transport division into this wholly owned subsidiary. The Stadtwerke, founded on March 1, 1948, now operate a pure bus service with WSW mobil in addition to the suspension railway . In her all the operations have been combined, on the territory of the city of Wuppertal to public transportation served (PT). Until 1959, the face of public transport in the city of Wuppertal was quite diverse. The first thoughts about the introduction of a trolleybus service date back to the years before the Second World War and could be traced back to the topography of the city of Wuppertal. In 1940 a line between Neumarkt and Mirke was licensed, but it was never established. The background to this was the striving for self-sufficiency during the Second World War: the use of electricity as drive energy would have made local public transport less dependent on oil imports.
However, the brief history of trolleybuses in Wuppertal only began on October 1, 1949 with the first line. It led from the Rauentaler Berg to Beyenburg (corresponding to today's bus route 616). The second line followed on December 24, 1950 and led from Oberbarmen to Schellenbeck . This was extended on October 27, 1952 by 2.4 km from Oberbarmen to Langerfeld (to Clausewitzstrasse , later to Dieselstrasse ). The third line followed on July 5, 1959. It replaced tram lines 4, 10 and 14 as well as the rack railway. This line led in the maximum from Ronsdorf as line 10B to the city center of Barmer (turning loop at the opera house); a branch line shuttled between Ronsdorf and Wichlinghauser Markt (line 10W).
After a few extensions, the trolleybus network had its greatest expansion at the end of 1963 with a 24.7 km route and a 33.5 km route network. The dismantling began on May 4, 1969 with the closure of the section from Langerfeld to Oberbarmen and ended on May 27, 1972 when the last section between Oberbarmen and Dellbusch (line 24) was switched to the diesel bus, which significantly reduces the travel times on this line have been extended.
With that, Wuppertal was free of trolleybuses except for one line of Stadtwerke Solingen in Vohwinkel .

The Wuppertal public utilities operate 8 express bus routes, 61 city bus routes, 11 night bus routes , 12 call and collect taxi routes , as well as numerous emergency vehicles for early morning and school traffic , partly in cooperation with neighboring companies . The Wuppertaler Stadtwerke also operate the school bus routes in Wuppertal. Individual lines are joint concessions, vehicles from WSW mobil are used there exclusively, in part or not at all.

In addition to their 16 (of the former 28) old (GTW 72) and 31 new (GTW 15) articulated multiple units of the suspension railway, the Wuppertal public utilities use 318 city buses in low-floor construction , of which 88 are solo buses , 12 midibuses and 218 articulated buses .
Due to unusual excessive wear of the wheel tires on the bogies of the new suspension railway cars, the suspension railway was temporarily suspended on weekdays until the cause was found and eliminated.

The car numbers
The Wuppertal public utilities have assigned the wagon numbers of the buses since 1973 in such a way that you can tell from them the year of commissioning at WSW (this is usually also the year of construction) and you can immediately tell whether it is a solo or a Articulated or midi vehicle. The first two digits indicate the year of commissioning (e.g. 93 = 1993, 00 = 2000 and 07 = 2007). The last two digits stand for the type of vehicle:
- 00: Special vehicles / coaches
- from 01: solo buses
- from 41: intercity buses , used in 2010 taken over by incorporation of the bus company Gerda Klingenfuß GmbH from Velbert
- from 51: midibuses or shorter solo buses (previously also leasing and test vehicles)
- 59: test vehicles, etc. a. with hybrid drive
- from 61: articulated buses
- from 91: Solo wagons (procured as pure school buses - formerly truck of the transport company)
The vehicles are located in the Varresbeck and Nachbarebreck depots.
