Langerfeld was an independent rural community in the Schwelm district until 1922 and is now a district in the east of Wuppertal , which belongs to the Langerfeld-Beyenburg district. Langerfeld borders on the neighboring town of Schwelm , in the west on the district of Wuppertal-Barmen , in the south on Beyenburg and in the north on the district Nachbarebreck .

coat of arms

At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the municipality of Langerfeld raised the status of the town of Langerfeld, and for this purpose a coat of arms was probably designed before 1902, which was approved by the municipal council on March 25, 1902. However, the town elevation was rejected in 1912 and probably no longer operated after the First World War , and the coat of arms was not approved by the Prussian authorities, so it remained unofficial. On August 5, 1922, Langerfeld was incorporated into the town of Barmen , today Wuppertal .

The coat of arms is square , the upper right field is black, the left shows a black wheel on a white background as a symbol for the local industry (flywheel / mill wheel) and is also the coat of arms of the Lords of Dobbe zu Lier - also called Dobben zu Lier - the previous owner of Haus Rauental . The two lower-ranking fields at the bottom show a bundle of yarn on a white background on the right as a further indication of the local trade and on the left a green field. The right-angled Brandenburg chess bar is placed over the shield . The chess bar is the coat of arms of the Counts of the Mark .

history

The Langerfelder Markt with the war memorial

The name Langerfeld means field of the Landger or Langer (family name), also Landger or Langers field. With field a larger treeless meadow area was once called.

Historically, Langerfeld belongs to Westphalia . After the first written mention in 1304 in a certificate from the abbot in Siegburg , Langerfeld belonged to the Westphalian parish of Schwelm from the 16th century , where the Lutheran Reformation took hold. During this time the bleaching trade emerged, which from then on determined the further development of the village. After 1740 ribbon weaving and ribbon knitting dominated the townscape.

The Galmeiabbau in long field has been known since the mid-18th century. In 1835, Friedrich Harkort tried to find a courage for the Karl colliery , which took place in 1856. The colliery mainly mined brown iron stone until it was closed in 1896 .

During the period of French rule in the Grand Duchy of Berg in the early 19th century the peasantry Langer field together with the peasantry Nächstebreck to the mayor summarized Langer field and that the Canton Schwelm in Arrondissement Hagen of the departments Ruhr assigned. After the transition of the Grand Duchy to the Prussian Generalgouvernement of Berg , Langerfeld was the titular place of the mayor of Langerfeld within the district of Hagen , which was transferred to the Prussian Office of Langerfeld in 1843 and assigned to the Schwelm district in 1887 . On August 5, 1922, Langerfeld lost its communal independence, was spun off from the Schwelm district and incorporated into the Rhenish city of Barmen. This in turn united in 1929 with Cronenberg , Elberfeld , Ronsdorf and Vohwinkel to form the city of Wuppertal, which initially bore the name Barmen-Elberfeld.

In addition to the village of Langerfeld, the villages of the rural community Langerfeld included the residential areas Beckacker , Beyeröhde , Bramdelle , Busch , Buschenburg , Dahl , Vorderer Ehrenberg , Hinterer Ehrenberg , Ecksteinloh , Grünebaum , Hebbecke , Hilgershöhe , Hippenrode , Höfen , Hölkesöhde , Jesinghausen , Kattendieck , Kemnade , Kirchloh , Koetter height , Kucksiepen , cuckoo , Neuenhof , Öhde , Laaken , Laibusch , Löhrerlen , Oeckesberg , Piewitt , Wild Öhde , Pülsöhde , Rauendahl , skirts Becke , Röttgen , Schee , Schmitteborn , Siepen , Steinhauser Berg , Tente , trumpet , Werbesloh and Wulfeshohl .
