The Hilgershöhe residential area in Wuppertal is one of nine districts in the Langerfeld-Beyenburg district .
geography
The 0.48 km², fully populated residential area is bordered in the east by the disused railway line Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen-Hattingen , in the south in sections by federal highway 7 and in the north and west by the city district boundary to Oberbarmen .
In the past, the residential area was severely affected by social segregation , which even today is only partially broken. Multi-storey apartment buildings in prefabricated construction dominated the residential area, but there are now also many single-family houses in quiet residential areas. An optically neglected block of flats with urban homeless shelters , which was demolished in 2004 to improve the living environment , contributed to the hotspot problem.
There is no commercial or retail trade in the residential area. In contrast, the educational sector with a comprehensive school and a community elementary school is relatively well developed. The residential area is to be upgraded with funds from the state-wide “Socially Integrative City” funding program. Since 2010, this has mainly been done by reactivating existing fallow land and building mostly single-family houses. A former supermarket that had been vacant for years was demolished in 2014 and a public garden (community garden) was built on the area. One year later, the primary school building on the street Auf der Höhe / Meininger Straße , which was no longer in use, was demolished, and new single-family houses are also being built in this area. A new, dedicated sports hall was built on Hilgershöhe for the Langerfeld comprehensive school in 2014. In addition, the quarter with the evangelical Beckacker church of the Ev. The parish of Langerfeld on Samoastraße and the Roman Catholic Church of St. Paul in the parish of St. Raphael on Bornscheuerstraße have two church buildings .
