The Wuppertal residential area of Hesselnberg is one of ten quarters in the Barmen district .

geography

The 1.02 km² residential area extends in the west of Barmen ( Unterbarmen ) from the valley axis to the Wuppertal south heights . In the north it is separated from the residential district of Friedrich-Engels-Allee by the Elberfeld – Dortmund railway line , in the west by the Bendahler Bach from Elberfeld and in the east by Oberbergische Strasse from the Kothen district . In the south it borders the Lichtenplatz district without a natural boundary line .

One third of the residential area is taken up by residential buildings, one third by the Christbusch forest and one third by the Unterbarmer cemetery . The administration of the local lacquer and paint plant of the company Axalta Coating Systems (formerly DuPont formerly Herberts) has bordered the cemetery area since 1891. It was built on the site of the Am Christbusch residential area .

The Unterbarmer train station, a S-Bahn stop, and a primary school are located in the residential area . The building of the former Wicküler brewery is used as a retail park. Architecturally significant is the Villa Herberts , which is owned by the sculptor Tony Cragg , who set up the Waldfrieden sculpture park on the spacious property in 2008 .

In the residential quarter of Hesselnberg, scenes from the 1991 film Manta, Manta were filmed on Bendahler Strasse, Mauerstrasse and Christbusch . In the chase towards the middle of the film, all three streets are clearly visible.
