Etymology and history

Platz am Loh in Wuppertal 20.jpg

Loh is an old name for forest .

The earliest mention of Loh with a date comes from the Beyenburger official account (account of the rent master to the Bergisch-ducal camera administration ) of the year 1466. This shows that the Loh residential area consisted of three courtyards with 21 acres .

Loh belonged to the court association of the Oberhof Wichlinghausen in Oberbarmen and was therefore an allod of the Count von der Mark since 1384 . From the late 14th century onwards , the area around Loh was part of Unterbarmen in the Bergisch Amt of Beyenburg . There it was part of the Barmer peasantry . Ecclesiastically it belonged to the parish of Elberfeld until its own parish in Barmer was established . In 1641 the size of the estate is given as 92 acres.

1715 is on the Topographia Ducatus Montani of Erich Philipp Ploennies between two courtyards T.loo and a courtyard Schimelsloo distinguished. With the other farms in the Barmen farming community , Aue was part of the Bergisches Amt Beyenburg until 1806.
