Limestone was also mined in the area, the settlement " Am Kalkofen " testifies to this. Two former pits ( Eskesberg mine and Dorp mine ) have now been filled. A lime kiln, the Wuppertal lime funnel kiln, has been preserved as an industrial monument.
Around the former Varresbeck train station on the Düsseldorf-Derendorf-Dortmund Süd railway line (" Wuppertaler Nordbahn "), an industrial area was created in which, among other things, the Wuppertal wholesale market and the G. u. J. Jaeger , which was later (1933) taken over by FAG Kugelfischer and today belongs to the Schaeffler Group . The WSW mobil GmbH , where it maintains a bus depot. In addition, Daimler AG has settled there.
