The Varresbeck residential area in Wuppertal is one of seven quarters in the Elberfeld-West district . The Varresbeck stream gives its name to the residential area .

geography

The 2.59 km² residential area is located in the west of Wuppertal. To the east of the residential area is the Nützenberg district , with Otto-Hausmann-Ring forming the border here. In the south lies the Sonnborn residential area , with the federal motorway 46 with the Sonnborner Kreuz being the southern border. In the west, the residential area of Lüntenbeck , which belongs to the Vohwinkel district, adjoins, the border of the quarter is formed by the federal motorway 535 . In the north are the residential quarters Eckbusch and Beek , which are part of the Uellendahl-Katernberg district ; here no special landmarks have been taken for the district boundary.

The suburbs, locations and courtyards in the residential area include Eskesberg , Frankholz , Lohrenbeck , Scheidt , Schliepershäuschen and Saurenhaus .

Buildings

The manor of Varresbeck was formerly located here , the permanent house was demolished in the course of road expansion. However, parts of the building could be saved and painstakingly restored in Gut Hungenbach ( Kürten ).

Limestone was also mined in the area, the settlement " Am Kalkofen " testifies to this. Two former pits ( Eskesberg mine and Dorp mine ) have now been filled. A lime kiln, the Wuppertal lime funnel kiln, has been preserved as an industrial monument.

Around the former Varresbeck train station on the Düsseldorf-Derendorf-Dortmund Süd railway line (" Wuppertaler Nordbahn "), an industrial area was created in which, among other things, the Wuppertal wholesale market and the G. u. J. Jaeger , which was later (1933) taken over by FAG Kugelfischer and today belongs to the Schaeffler Group . The WSW mobil GmbH , where it maintains a bus depot. In addition, Daimler AG has settled there.
