The Rott residential area in Wuppertal is one of ten quarters in the Barmen district .

geography

The 0.76 km² residential area in Barmen is bordered in the northwest by Schönebecker Strasse , in the northeast and east by Carnaper Strasse and Steinweg , and in the south by Strasse Hohenstein . In the west, the border runs from Schönebecker Strasse for a while over the Nordbahntrasse , down Buchenstrasse , along Kastanienstrasse and Eichenstrasse into Tulpenstrasse and then through the green area down to Strasse Hohenstein . Clockwise, the Sedansberg , Barmen-Mitte , Friedrich-Engels-Allee , Loh and Clausen residential areas surround the Rott residential area.

The residential area is almost completely covered with residential buildings. The small parks Schönebecker Busch and Hohenstein are among the few open spaces . The high bunker in the quarter is striking .

etymology

The name “Rott” is an old field name : 1591 “Rade”, 1642 “Radt”, 1684 “Rodt”, 1698 “Ratt” (= clearing). There used to be a dense forest area here (which was cleared up to the Schönebecker Busch) and a farm “aufm Rod”. The Rath family came from this farm and split into a Barmer and Elberfeld line. The Legation Secretary Ernst vom Rath belonged to the Elberfeld branch, who was ennobled in 1840. His assassination in 1938 was followed by the “Reichskristallnacht”.

Facilities on the Rott

There are five schools in the neighborhood: the Eichenstrasse primary school, the Thorner Strasse primary school, the Hohenstein secondary school, the Helene-Stöcker-Schule (special needs school, Eichenstrasse location) and the Bernhard-Letterhaus-Schule (municipal Catholic secondary school). The Am Rott district library is located at Rödiger Str. 69.

For childcare there is the municipal day care center Schönebecker Platz (family center), the municipal kindergarten Annabergstraße, the municipal kindergarten Rödiger Straße and the playground building Schönebecker Busch.

The Schönebecker Busch is also home to the soccer field, the leisure sports facility and the club house of SC Viktoria Rott 89.

As in almost all Wuppertal residential areas, there is also an active civic association on the Rott, the Rotter Bürgerverein 1902 e. V. (RBV). Since 1971, the RBV has organized the "UNICEF Children's and Autumn Festival" every September in the Schönebecker Busch.

The Rotter Church of the Evangelical Parish Unterbarmen is also located in Rödiger Strasse .

Transport infrastructure

The Wuppertal-Rott stop after the closure

The disused railway line Düsseldorf-Derendorf-Dortmund Süd ( Wuppertaler Nordbahn ) crosses under the residential area in the Rott tunnel and had a stopping point set up in 1952 under the name Wuppertal-Rott . From here, commuters and schoolchildren could use the railcars for trips to other parts of the city. This was served until 1991.

Today the district is primarily accessed by the bus lines 604 and 614 of the Wuppertaler Stadtwerke , which connect the Rott to the center of Wuppertal-Barmen.
