The 1.06 km² residential area in Unterbarmen encompasses the entire Friedrich-Engels-Allee street and numerous side streets. In the east it borders on the Barmen-Mitte residential area , with the Steinweg and Fischertal streets as the borderline . The district of Kothen is to the southeast and the district of Hesselnberg to the southwest , the route of the Elberfeld – Dortmund railway line represents the district boundary. To the west, the Friedrich-Engels-Allee district borders on the Elberfeld residential district of Elberfeld-Mitte . In the northwest is the Loh district , at the foot of the Hardtberg is the Hardtufer street and the Hünefeldstraße is the boundaries of the district. From Völklinger Strasse to Loher Strasse , the course of the Wupper marks the boundary of the residential district. In the northeast, the Hohenstein street delimits the area from the Rott residential area .
