The Wuppertal-Varresbeck station (short: Varresbecker station) is a train station in Wuppertal . It is located on the “Wuppertaler Nordbahn”, which opened in 1879 and in this section largely closed down in 1991 . It corresponded to the historic station class II OK .

history

The station was opened by the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft on September 15, 1879 under the name "Sonnborn RhE" and renamed in 1890 to "Elberfeld-Varresbeck". Later only listed as “Varresbeck” in the course book , it was renamed “Wuppertal-Varresbeck” in the 1950s.

The slate - clad half - timbered construction is used as a residential building and has been registered as a monument since March 10, 1992.

Todays use

The building has been privately owned since January 2010, and the new owners have started a restoration of the reception building at the same time . All roofs have already been renewed and the windows on the back of the ground floor have been newly made and installed in accordance with the monument protection directive. The woodwork was repainted in ivory / reddish brown. In 2010, pre-war photos emerged that showed that the station had so-called floating gables in every gable . These have already been reconstructed. The adjoining small locomotive shed , which was built from wood in the 1930s, is also a listed building. It is also being restored. The brick building adjacent to the small locomotive shed is older and housed the track forge at the time. A locomotive was used to access the locomotive shed via a small turntable , the round brick wall can still be seen.
