The Saurenhaus location in the Varresbeck residential area in the Elberfeld-West district of Wuppertal goes back to the former Saurenhaus estate.

location

The place is located on the north of Düsseldorfer Straße, which is classified as Bundesstraße 7 , and west of Palkestraße . The federal autobahn 535 has been crossing the local area since the mid-1980s, and its Großer Busch autobahn tunnel is sometimes also referred to as the Saurenhaus tunnel .

Neighboring to the west was the Schickenberg estate , which was lost through the Schickenberg limestone mine . Other locations are: Düsselerhöhe , An der Piep , Bück , Steinberg , Frankholzhäuschen , Am Hagen , Scheidt , Bergerheide , Schliepershäuschen , Am Oberst , Lüntenbeck , Sandfeld and Wieden .

etymology

Nothing is known about the origin of the name 'Saurenhaus'.

history

Saurenhaus belonged to the Lüntenbeck farm association and was mentioned in 1677 as three individual estates, a total of 34 hectares . In the 17th century, Saurenhaus appears as a family name when it is mentioned in documents.

Around 1830 four estates are recorded. The Schliepershäuschen estate was created before 1677 as a split from Saurenhaus. Saurenhaus was located in the municipality of Sonnborn , which was split off from the mayor's office in Haan in 1867 and which was renamed the municipality of Vohwinkel in 1888, when territory was transferred to the city of Elberfeld . When Wuppertal was founded in 1929, Saurenhaus found its way into the urban area as part of Vohwinkel.

With the construction of the federal highway 224 in the mid-1980s, which was later upgraded to the federal highway 535 , most of the historical building fabric was lost. Only the half-timbered house Claudiusweg 26 is older.
