The Lüntenbeck House, known as Lüntenbeck Castle , is a former moated castle or permanent house in Wuppertal . With its largely unchanged complex, it is one of the oldest buildings in the city and was one of the twelve manors in the Solingen district .

The castle is in the Lüntenbeck district in the west of the city, about seven kilometers west of the center of Elberfeld and belongs to the Vohwinkel district . The facility is surrounded by a forest, the Tescher Busch and three ponds.

history

The knight's seat was first mentioned in a document as early as 1217 as a courtyard of the Gerresheim women's monastery , and the strong vaulted cellar of the current mansion probably dates from this time .

The mill tower and the eastern half-timbered house (probably built as an administration building) were built after the Thirty Years War and, like the two-and-a-half-storey main building with an attached tower, date from the high baroque period . The building was surrounded by a spacious outer bailey with its farm buildings.

After 1784 Johannes Plücker acquired the castle from Baron von (dem) Bottlenberg . After the death of Johannes Plücker, Lüntenbeck Castle became the property of his son-in-law, the Royal Prussian Consistorial and Government Councilor Karl Ludwig Pithan. Pithan's grandson, Consul Karl Pithan-Hülsenbeck , sold Lüntenbeck Castle to Gustav Römer in 1889 . In 1906 the city acquired the castle, which has been owned by Schloss Lüntenbeck GmbH & Co. KG, a family company, since 2000.

The castle and its outdoor facilities are used by several service industries and can be viewed from the outside at any time. Since May 2009, after a long break, a restaurant can be found in the main building. The rooms in the main building are rented out for both private and business events, such as conferences and seminars. The registry office Wuppertal performs in the hall of the main building civil marriage ceremonies . The castle is known for the Lüntenbeck Christmas market, which takes place twice during Advent (2nd and 3rd Advent weekends, on Saturdays and Sundays) .
